Any thoughts on a Comp Cams XE-R 224/224 .567/.567
112 lsa 4 degrees of advance? Will it work well on a stock engine that amy be getting longtubes in the near future? How is the idle? I am not the most knowledgeable about cams: read moron, not quite, but mostly uninformed. Thanks.

whats it going in?? A4 or M6??

for a M6 i'd get the 112, but for a auto i would stick with a 114. I have the comp 224/224 .563 114 and its great in upper rpms. I just havent fixed my warm stalling issues yet. Idle sounds awesome though a open cutout, but with it capped it sounds like stock. You will more than likely have to raise your idle a tad, and do some other tweaks to make your car idle and run better

If it's an XE-R I think it's a .581 lift.

M-6. I haven't been able to get the sig to work.
I don't run at the track (yet), or push the car past 5500 RPMS very often ( usually doesn't break 5000, no need; ricers). I really am looking for something with a nice kick in the pants. Cam is local so I am invetigating a little (.567 lift is what I am told). Thanks

there is a misconception out there. XE & XE-R are the same grind, ramp rate also. They are both Xtreme eenergy cams. However the XE is a flat tappit cam and the XE-R is a hydraulic roller cam.
If you got the same specs the two cams would be identical
In a nutshell any "Xtreme energy" cam for us would be an XE-R

muscrat, are you sure on your numbers there?

and i am almost positive the xe-r lobes start at .581". the .56x lift is the xe lobes. imho they wont make a power difference in a mild build up motor.

is this travis' cam by the way? just wondering.

Thanks for the help, but it has sold. I learned some stuff, so thanks guys. I really need to sit down and do some studying on lift, duration, lsa, and ramp rates. XE and XE-R are both hydraulic roller, like the LS1 is from the factory.

I've spoken with 3 different people on different occasions that said the exact same thing
By the way, the R in XE-R stands for roller

after you talk to comp let me know what they told you

Comp Cams has many categories of lobes. They have High Energy, Dual Energy, Magnum, Hi-Tech Race, Nitrous HP, Xtreme Energy, and so on. Xtreme Energy is then broken down into many types of lobes. You can get Xtreme Energy in both roller and flat tappet. The most common Xtreme Energy lobes for LS1s are LS1 High RPM lobes(design #'s 3705-3719) and LS1 XE-R ramp lobes(design #'s 3720-3734).

I don't see why "R" would stand for roller. You can get Xtreme Energy LS1 High RPM lobes and your still going to get a roller cam. Obviously all LS1 grinds are going to be roller.

You're wrong Muskrat. XE and XE-R are both Comp Hyd roller lobes. I have had BOTH cams in my car.

i, like many here on the board and in real life, know of many people that have had BOTH cams in their motors. r - probably stands for something like race for the very fast ramp rates.

if the r stood for roller cams and rockers, then stock ls1 motors would have a real problem using them right? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

Muscrat, you are wrong. I have had cams with XE lobes, XER lobes, and with XER intake lobes and XE exhuast lobes. They are obviously both roller lobes. The XER is just a more aggresive profile.
