Conversions & Hybrids - Tuners / PCM reflash / O2 delete / VATS / etc

I've been reading up trying to figure out what I need to do to my PCM to get the engine running but am a little confused. the LS1/T56 is from an '02 Z28 going into a '72 240Z and I'm using the f-body engine harness and stock computer. I realize VATS needs to be disabled. I dont have rear O2 sensors or smog pump but otherwise it's completely stock ... ok well no A/C, no power steering, and I'm only using one of the fan solenoids but otherwise stock. So if I just get the VATS disable box (~$30) plus O2 simulators ($?) is that all I need (already has skip shift eliminator)? HP tuners obviously would give a lot of flexibility but $500 is steep considering I have a stock engine and am not wanting to tweak it to the nth degree. I just wanting to get it running and driving without issues. Also been looking at the hand held tuners but they dont seem to have the capability to disable VATS or the rear O2 sensors so they would not be very useful. Having someone flash it for me is roughly half of just buying HP tuners in the first place so if in the future I ever want anything else well I may as well bite the bullet. So any advice on getting this thing going for little $$?

Thanks
Cameron

I spent $200 at www.pcmforless.com

I had them delete everything, from ac to traction control and torque management.

Trust me, I had a laundry list of stuff. Seems everything sets off an SES light.

1) Vats delete
2) EGR delete
3) Tank Pressure delete
4) Skip shift delete
5) Rear O2 delete
6) Air solenoid delete
7) Air pump delete
8) Oil level delete
9) AC Code delete
10) Traction control delete
11) Air pump Delete
12) Torque Management delete
13) Tank Pressure delete

1) Adjust speedo for 3.73 gears
2) Adjust fan temps on @ 195 and 205 respectively
3) modify cruise output signal from 4k to 2k? (not sure if this is possible) so I can keep the stock Cruise
4) modify tach signal to 8 cyl

I sent my pcm to jesse at wait4meperformance.com as a mail tune. He flashed out eveything I didn't need (A/C, EGR, AIR, VATS, etc). Put a basic tune on it and mailed it back for $85.00. Everything you listed can be done.

Jesse should be able to get you up and running.

If I were in your shoes I'd send my PCM to wait4meperfoamcen.com. He'll put a mail order tune on it and get rid of all the junk you don't need for way less than $200. It's just a better idea to turn that stuff off in the PCM rather than having a bunch of different hardware patches.

I have my own copy of HPTuners, so I have not experienced any of his tunes, but I did send him my 99 PCM to get a stock 02 operating system flashed to it and it was under $40.

Same here, I sent my PCM to wait4me and they were of great assistance. I think it was $75 plus shipping.

If your on a budget I`d send it to wait4me. He did my PCM when I first did my swap and you won`t find anyone to do it for less.

Thanks guys. $75 seems like a good deal. I am using the stock f-body tank and was planning on using the stock tank breather system rather than just open to atmosphere. So to do this I think I need to keep the tank pressure sensor no? Therefore I think my list would be:

1) Vats delete
2) EGR delete
3) Skip shift delete
4) Rear O2 delete
5) Air solenoid delete - is this for the air pump or for the tank vent into the t-body?
6) Air pump delete
7) Oil level delete (pending if I have exhaust clearance or not for the connector)
8) AC Code delete
9) Traction control delete
10) Air pump Delete
11) Torque Management delete
12) Adjust speedo for 3.9 gears
13) Adjust fan temps on @ 195 and 205 respectively - is there really an advantage to this and I'm only running one Spal fan so where should it be set?

Thanks
Cameron

You could use the stock tank breather and Purge valve. . or just use a Charocoal Canister on the breather tube and flash out the code.

If this is a 99-02 I believe the oil level sensor just goes to the dummy light in the dash. I've never seen reference to it in HPTuners, but could be wrong though.

Most refer to the oil senser is that the PCM doesn't use it for anything related to the engine or performance. Any as stated, only for the idiot light.
