918 spring life hey guys i got 918s non stripe springs on my car
i have used them with my 2 cams and are on the car currently with my second cam and i have 16k on the springs as i drive the car everyday
how long are you guys going before you swap to new springs???

Re: 918 spring life I have roughly 20K-23K on my 918s and over 200 track passes along with some street races with no problems. I'll switch mine out in a few months for some new 918s.

Re: 918 spring life I have a B1 cam. I plan on going at least 40K before changing them. The car hardly sees any track time....

Re: 918 spring life I would think that ramp rates are probably one of the most important factors to take into account. Faster ramp = lots more wear on valvesprings....

Re: 918 spring life Not true, they recommended I switch my 918's after 10k on my TR230/224 cam.
The guys at TR say 918s will theoretically last indefinetly on the the cams they sell . . . so I think it depends on the specs of your cam.

Re: 918 spring life I've got 19K miles in the past 12 months. I don't drag race and am rarely at redline, but I do auto-x. I have the non-blue stripe version installed, but have a new set waiting. The longer I wait the more paranoid I am. I broke Rev 1115's the last two summers, at between 17K & 22K miles.

I've got 19K miles in the past 12 months. I don't drag race and am rarely at redline, but I do auto-x. I have the non-blue stripe version installed, but have a new set waiting. The longer I wait the more paranoid I am. I broke Rev 1115's the last two summers, at between 17K & 22K miles.
If you had a spring from that bad batch I'd think it would have broken long before now.
I would not sweat 19K unless you've got a real aggresive cam and/or big heavy valves.

Re: 918 spring life ...i was scared on the 918s since they sent the bad batch out and did not recall it or cover swap expenses and warranty work on the defective product, etc... ...so I bought REVs...

I purchased the non-blue stripes around June 24th, 2002. I think I have Rev valves, 2.02/1.57, and the cam is a 218/226 527/535.
But obviously, it's your car and your call. Personally, I have a 221/221//.558/.558 cam with stock valves and 772 ti retainers, and I rev to 6400rpm max. Car does not see redline very often, and I don't intend to replace them any sooner than 30-40K. I bought mine in november/december of '01.
