Military Hotrod Club - Bragg vs Hood??

So it looks like these will be my choices for Duty stations. I'm a CW2 Chinook pilot and I was prior Infantry so my Hooah meter isn't really jumping at either one of these choices.
But anyway I have 2 little girls(5 and 2) and of course a hot wife.
So let me hear opinions on this. I do have some general questions as well.
#1. Is there a drag strip close??
#2. How are the schools?
#3. How are home prices? Are they rising or falling??
#4 What kind/size of home will $150k get you?
#5. Whats the crime rates like??
#6. Any areas to avoid??
And please if you have any pictures of the area post them up
I work with a bunch of guys from Fort Hood and they all say good things, but I kinda want to know the bad as well.
I'd go with bragg for family stuff, hood is a more party place. Theres absolutely nothing to do at bragg for a single soldier
need pics of the wife to be sure hahaha

Pic's? I don't think she would appove
Were you stationed at either? and when?
It seems it the same everywhere, just outside of post is the nastiest place in the state but each has its redeeming qualitys.

Don't listen to those dumbasses. Bragg isn't bad at all. Been stationed in Korea, Lewis, Sam Houston, and Bragg. SA, TX is my favorite but Bragg comes in second. I've been to many other places too: Benning, Stewart, Leonard Wood, Irwin, AP Hill and still like it here the most. Fayetteville has really come up over the years, I originally got here in '99 and yeah, it was kinda shitty, but it's grown and improved quite a bit.
1) Yes, there's a drag strip: Fayetteville Motor Speed Park
2) Schools could be better, do your research before you move into a school district.
3) Not sure if the prices are rising or falling.
4) I bought my house in '04 for 146K. 4 BR 2 bath, 2 car garage, 2200sq/ft, 100/100 ft lot w/fenced in back yard.
5) Crime rates have definitely gone down over the last few years, again, some areas are better than others, just have to do your research.
6) Stay away from Murchison Road.
Hope this helps man. PM me if you've got any more questions.

 Dumbasses. Everyone has their own perspective. Bragg itself isn't bad, the surrounding area is heinous. If you live here long enough you can tolerate it like anything else, but inho I'd take Hood. Besides, the closest LSx performance shop is an hour and a half away:D

Answer getting ready to go: I have been at Hood for close to 10 years.
#1. Is there a drag strip close??
Yes you have Temple Academy raceway, San Antonio raceway, Houston, etc
#2. How are the schools?
The schools can be pretty ghetto. I had my son in a private Catholic school. Money well spent.
#3. How are home prices? Are they rising or falling??
Homes prices are good. The amount of house you can buy in Texas for the money has no equal. I have 3 homes in Texas.
#4 What kind/size of home will $150k get you? A 2 story house for sure.
#5. Whats the crime rates like?? Just keep your doors locked...
#6. Any areas to avoid?? Downtown Killeen at night.
And deployments up the ass. 3 for my wife and I combined in the last 4 years.

I as an 8 year Fayetteville/Spring Lake resident have posted my answers below in bold:
But anyway I have 2 little girls(5 and 2) and of course a hot wife. <---if she goes out clubbin, prepare to have about 10 Army guys hit on her. That's just the norm around here.
So let me hear opinions on this. I do have some general questions as well.
#1. Is there a drag strip close?? Yes, it's 20 miles or so from Bragg, near the air port. I've raced there before, they don't inspect your car before you race, and some have said they don't prep the track very well either. There's an even better drag strip (so they say) called Rockingham which is 50 miles south of Bragg.
#2. How are the schools? - I hear they suck ass but that's coming from others.
#3. How are home prices? Are they rising or falling?? - I'd guess rising since now with BRAC more soldiers are coming in, but that's my guess.
#4 What kind/size of home will $150k get you? - I rent so i can't answer that one.
#5. Whats the crime rates like?? - It's a very high crime rate which is why we all know it as "Fayettenam".
#6. Any areas to avoid?? Southgate, Murchinson Rd, Shaw Rd, Grove St area, Bonnie Doone area around Powers-Swain and parts of Spring Lake. And don't live in Franks Mobile Home park that whole area is a brewing meth lab.
And please if you have any pictures of the area post them up
No pics, but there's nothing to take a pic of really. I strongly don't recommend anyone live in Fayettenam if they can avoid it. Lillingotn and Sanford are 20 miles north but better areas to live in IMO.

Wow, thanks for the info guys, I think we are leaning more toward Texas at this point, I can't believe how cheap houses are down there, and we would like to keep the houe we are in now for an investment so it looks like that would work best.
Anymore input or pictures?

The first picture is my fourplex in Killeen. The price was $165,000.00.
The second picture is my other house in Houston. The price was $225,000.00.
Like I said earlier the bang for the buck in houses in Texas is equal to none.

Thanks for the heads up, who would you recommend in the Hood area? I have dealt with shady realators before around Military bases, we had one in Alabama that was a bunch of thieves, even went in our house while we were at work and then tried to lie and say my wife said they could go in.

Feel free to shoot me a PM if you have any questions with the packet, it takes for ever to get all that crap together and can get confusing, I know they have changed some things since I did mine.
What do you want to fly??

12-24-2007, 01:41 AM
uh-60's i know i know your gonna tell me 47's are better but i love the blackhawks
95ttoplt1
12-24-2007, 01:56 AM
They all have there place. You will definatley be able to get hawks, the army has so many places to fill you have to be top 5 in your class to not get blackhawks. But as you can imagine this does have its down falls, as some times you realy get some choice hawk pilots. But the hawk community is a cool bunch of guys, I work with them all the time.

Hood sucks. Thats for sure. But the surrounding areas are great. You have Austin, Houston, San Antonio, Dallas, Arlington, etc. One thing I can say about Hood is that I am never bored.
so i recommend staying away from hood its the black hole of the army.........but to answer your question the dragstrip is about a 30-45 min drive from hood. not the greatest strip but its legal.

HOOD HOOD HOOD HOOD HOOD! I tell all my soldiers to go to hood before they get out. I loved being in the first team! I myself am 11C, and a mech warrior so im a little biased. I dont think I could stand being at bragg, all those super hooah, overly motivated, gay porn star retards that jump out of airplanes would really start to piss me off. Tankers are much cooler people.
1. Yes there is a drag strip close to fort hood, I just cant remember the damn name. been away for 3 years.
2.Schools, from what I was told they were good, although I cant say personally as I have no children yet.
3.Houses are cheap as fuck in texas, last time I was there a 2400 sqft home went for 80-100 thousand.
4.See 3.
5.Pretty bad in killeen, coppers cove and harker heights, anything around ft hood. Just drive 30 minutes and you can be in the middle of rural central texas nowhere, nice country, nice people, and easy going life.
6.killeen outside the rancier gate. the only thing out there worth seeing are the damn barber shops. make a left just about anywhere off of rancier and youll be in the natural habitat of the crack head in all its glory. there used to be a midget hooker there, one of my guys "hired" her before our deployment in Jan 04. It still beats shemale prostitutes and being in a division that has an award for best gay porn movie.
Why walk when you can ride!
