What transmission/transfer case do you have? If you have a 7004r/NP208 or other transfer case just keep the 700r4 and transfer case the 5.3L will bolt-up to it.

You should be able to swap to an intank pump pretty easily because that body style had intake pumps with the the TBI units just need the correct pump for correct output pressure you would need two of the but the inline would be easier..

If the 5.3 has a DBW throttle body, you will have problems keeping the 700-R4 alive. You have to have a throttle valve cable to run that tranny. If you can find an electronic tranny that will bolt up to your transfre case, you will be better off.

You can use the tanks from an 88 - 91 Crewcab as well, they will bolt right up like the 87 regular cab tanks will, and have the fuel injection baffles etc in them.

You can bolt a 90-91 32 spline NP241 from a Suburban, Crewcab, or K5 Blazer / Jimmy up to a 4x4 4l60e or 4l80e. The NP241 drops on the proper side of the truck to run your driveshaft, and is equipped with the same VSS that the newer transfer cases use. You can use a speedometer cluster from a 90 - 91 Burb / 3+3 / K5 as they have electronic speedometers that are compatible with the signal that the PCM outputs. Make sure you re-pin your factory harness to be compatible with the newer cluster though

I am doing this same swap on my 79 C-10. http://www.performancetrucks.net/for...d.php?t=406994

I used a sending unit from an 87. But as stated, any truck with the saddle style tanks 87 and up would work.

My bed is set up for dual tanks. I looked in to doing that with one external pump. S&P did this to a 77 http://www.hotrodlane.cc/77chevytruck/77chevy.htm

That helped me a lot, just seeing how some one else did things.
Also read through this thread http://www.performancetrucks.net/for...d.php?t=381116
He is doing similar to what you want to do with the transfer case.

If you have any questions on what I have done with my truck, just PM me.
