After having no luck with my LS1 and having it spin rod bearings twice i decided to go the 6.0 route.Perfect for the budget racer like myself.lol

Here is the specs.

1)05 LQ9 6.0
2)Futral FM14 232"/234" .598"/.598" 112LSA
3)Patriot Performance Dual gold Valve Springs
4)stock 317 heads hand ported,220cc intake runners,68cc chambers,313cfm intake,milled 0.030,10.8:1 compression,stock valves
5)ARP head bolts,ARP rod bolts
6)Vig3200/3:42s
7)Full bolt-ons

The heads were handported by a friend of mine.He goes by Studytime on this site. Thanks Ben T.

Had it Dyno tuned by Allan Futral.

414rwhp unlocked(dont have unlocked tq number)
438rwhp/411rwtq locked(to compare to you six speed guys)

Heres a scan.Only have the locked run.He said he was having issues with it so it only shows hp and no rpm. :( better than nothin.

I dont think its to bad for someone on a tight budget. What do ya'll think she'll run? Im on 275/40 17 nitto drags. race weight is about 3830lbs.Thanks

I have a t rex and edelbrock terminator heads, fast 90/90 installed on top of a lq9 i built myself. I love it and can t wait to get it dynoed. My ls1 made 414hp 398tq and the lq9 seems so much stronger. I can give it about 40% throttle and it is breaking the tires loose. Couldnt say the same for the ls1.

Very nice results through an A4 on a budget build! Stock tinkered-with heads, as well. That car must pull like a mother, especially off the line.

And I don't know if you've run it yet at the track, but I wouldn't doubt it's now time for some Mickey Thompsons or something a bit stickier than those Nittos (same as mine) so you can launch like it should be!

I havent made a trip to the track yet.The nittos I have now are at the end of thier life.Im not sure if i should go Mickey this time around or run nittos again.Never had any traction issues with nittos.of course that was with my old LS1. :)

Well, the Nittos have a nice long life when driven regularly, whereas the Mickey Thompsons will wear out quickly (especially if raced a lot), but the difference from a dig at the track is night and day from what I've seen and heard. I plan on running Nittos on my normal wheels for regular driving and cruising, and then bringing a set of MTs on separate wheels to the track so I can see some decent times. I have no traction even on a prepped track right now, and I'm making less power than you. Then again, my gears are really steep.

Those are some good numbers from an LQ9. :D I did the LQ4 route, mainly because it was cheaper and more available. :)

Yeah i think i might suck it up and get the mickeys.I dont drive her that much.My poor 10 bolt though ;)

Yeah the LQ4s usually go for around $1200 with about 30k on them around here.Easy to find.I lucked out and found my LQ9 with about 15k for $1700. :joecool:

As another option for heads, you can use LS6 (#243) heads to increase the compression ratio without milling. 317s and 243s are the same design with the exception of bowl sizes; 317 = 72cc and 243 = 66cc. The 66cc will net you around 11.1:1. WCCH does have work LS6 heads that had a 68cc bowl that can give you 10.8:1.

What do you have your shift points set to with that cam?

Is the stock bottom end good enough for that RPM? I just bought an 01 LQ9 today, I am trying to learn more about them.

I am pretty sure 243s are 64cc and 241s are 66cc. Good numbers BTW. Go to the track and get the ones that count now.

Why wouldnt they be? The rods in the lq9 are the better than any lq4 or ls1 rod! Just put some aftermarket rodbolts in.

Hey mark, good numbers. This is Chad , i worked with you a few weeks ago.

My lq9 is going in my nova soon and with a very simular set up as yours , except I decided to go carbed. Same cam you are running (only because I am getting it free) and maybe getting a set of 243's for a killer deal. Good luck and hope it works out for you. Hopefully you can get your idle straight, You will more then likely need another tuner for that though.

I bought mine from latino motors in Donaldsonville. Sometimes he'll have a few LQ4s and the occasional LQ9.Sometimes time he wont have any.Luck of the draw. He'll deal with you also if he has one. Heres the number if ya intrested.

Latino motors (225) 473-8601. I also have an older number. 717-1711

Also google maps shows a different location than where i went too..Maybe they moved. Not sure.Same area though.lol

Thanks Chad. The 6.0 is still alive though i have some electrical gremlins.I keep popping the engine sensor fuses. It pops right when i crank it.So of course thats why my idle is crap.:(
Ive replaced the o2s and the o2 extension harnesses. The passenger side o2never did read even when the fuse had worked.Must be in the main harness.Fun Fun.

I also bought the PTC frmv th350/ss3600 i mentioned to ya.I'll deal without overdrive. It'll be worth it .:headbang: Its not in the car yet though.Just saving for the BMR conversion crossmember torque arm mount.

Ill deal with the sensor mess after its installed.lol.And then maybe one day everything will work well long enough to run her at the track.

That cam is the same as the TSP torquer 2, right? How does the engine feel down low?

AINT SKEERED
02-23-2009, 09:10 AM
cam is only the same at .050 as the tsp cam. much different everywhere else.

I have this cam and it feel ok down low but the f13 is better down low, this one pulls to a higher rpm. Both have there place.

If you like a lot of tq down low, the 13 is for you. above 4000 , this one is better then the 13 but still not a slouch below 4000 rpms. I have used both

what tires was this on ? you should run 11.3's or so with a little better traction. mph could be a little higher for the hp you posted but still doing pretty good for the first time to the track.:chug:

I was on 275/40 17'' mickeys drag radials at about 17psi. I just couldnt get better than a 1.7 60' out of her.
If id flatfoot it it would jump up then light em up.Had to do a quick stap to see if it hooked then floor it.The car is lowered on BMR drop springs with thier relocation brackets and adjustable LCAs.I know 11.4s were there if i coulda managed that 1.6 60' i wanted.Oh well maybe next time.

I was more more than happy with the trap considering the 3895 racewieght.Im a big guy..:emb:

You will get it dialed in and you will run some low 11.'s . Just takes a few trips to get everything dialed in.

Yeah still there.:secret2:

Might need to do some some caliper grinding and borrow some slicks.Had a set i coulda used out there.

Im still happy regardless. My last set up went 11.6 @117 with a 125shot.So im happy to match the time without the spray.I still have the kit.I just wanna get a bigger fuel pump first before i go sprayin any bigger than a 70shot with this setup.
