Default Trans Removal Question

Hey all,

I checked the sticky, but it doesn't say...

How high does the bottom of the car need to be in order to remove the trans? I currently have the bottom of my car 21" off the ground. Is that high enough?

Thanks in advance,
Mike

the bottom of you car should be high enough to clear the tranny and the jack(or pallet) that you have under it

I've replaced several clutches without a trans jack or a lift. Just have a friend who isn't a whiner.

I get the car higher than 21" though.

I did mine on jackstands on a safe notch. Didn't go all the way up, but it worked out just fine.

You can also place wood or some stable material between the jack and the car to get it higher.

The best thing I have ever used for removing and installing the transmission on these cars if you don't have a lift is an ATV/Motorcycle Jack. I rest the trans in between the two rails and the wheels let you slide it back and forth with great ease. Plus it is low enough to slide out from under the car on jackstands.

Thank you captain obvious!! That does not tell me how high (in inches) the bottom of the car needs to be off the ground.

I do not have access to a lift or else this question wouldn't have came up.

You'll be fine using jackstands. You can get it high enough with them and have room to get a jack under the trans to lower it down. I think we had them on the second to last notch on the stands
