Default Is there any adavantage to using the Comp "R" lifters?

I'm getting ready to do heads and cam, and I need to replace my lifters while I'm down there, because I'm almost positive one is collapsed. Anyways, are there any adavantage or disadvantages to using the "R" lifters vs. the stock replacement lifters?

Thank.

1) They are cheaper than stock ones
2) They will take high rpms better if you have the correct lifter preload, I have mine at .010 and we plan to buzz my hydraulic setup to 7200-7300.

I'm looking to go no higher than 6600 with mine. Do you still think they would be advantageous over the stock pieces?

If you are running a high lift cam the R's will not bleed down as much as the stock lifters.

how do you set lifter pre-load? Is it by push rod length??? And what is the desired pre-load, my mods + a TR224, .561 @114?

TIA PSJ.

Just finger tighten the rocker bolts until it is hard to spin the pushrods with one finger, then crank them down until the bolt just stops turning while counting turns. It should take one turn or less to do this if you have the right push rod length. Final bolt torque should be 22 ft-lbs.

Stock lifters call for .050 preload.

R's call for like .010.

You would need to adjust via the pushrods or by shimming the rockers.

1/4 turn of the bolt is supposed to equal about 12 thou of preload, but you could always throw a dial indicator on it to really know.
