Default CME installation

well, i found did it, i went out and bought a catback exhaust from a SS which includes muffler and cme tips and valance.

my question is this, the muffler should be a direct replacement, including hangers for what i now, right??

but what about the valance?? how do you install one on a z28 that has never had one??

its a factory slp valance, not the new one being made now.

thanks
tony

yeah i know about the tape along the seam, but there are what looks like to be 3 mounting holes in the valance, two on the ends and one in the middle.

the 2 on the ends go to existing body tabs inside the rear wheel wells, right??

but the one in the center has nothing to bolt to. this one is what concerns me.

Yup use 3m THIN 2sided tape. If you use the THICK you will have a bigger gap.The center hole needs to be drilled, then buy a push plug to put in there. As far as the muffler it should bolt right up using your existing hangers

if you got the complete cme catback it will bolt up. they're are 2 extra hangers that comes with that exhaust. on each tail pipe. if you didn't get the I pipe or over the axle pipe, they you'll have to weld the stock pipe to it(which is smaller 2 3/4) the CME I pipe is 3 inch

how do i install the 2 additional hanger, buy the hanger mount from the dealer??

the stock over the axle pipe is welded to the stock muffler, is the only way to get it out to cut it??

will the new 3" I pipe bolt directly to the stock y pipe??

thanks

if you don't want to cut it, then take the passenger side spring, out and work out that way. you have to dissconnect the shock from the rear as well as the trailing arm.

the new i pipe should, alot of catbacks are designed to bolt to the factory y pipe

thanks for the info
i see them at slponline.

it doesn't say anything about how they install though. do they bolt to the chassis, or are they weld on?? also, i didn't see any rubber hangers to go with them. any info on those?

thanks

the brackets bolt to the frame, the hanger slp sells is actually incomplete. there is another bracket that bolt to that bracket to hold it up in the frame. they also do not come with the rubber hanger. look at the brackets in this pic. they're at the bottom to the right. that will give you an idea what im talking about

yeah i know what you are saying.

those are the parts i was asking about. i checked out the one bracket on my car.

i'm going to call slp tomorrow and ask about it.

this is weird though, plenty of people have upgraded to a cme and dual/dual, i'm surprised more haven't responded here.
