Hello guys new to the site. I know this is gonna stir some pots, and I am a big GM fan ('91 Z w/310 hp and Stealth Ram, T-56, '01 GP GT daily driver, 98 Transport wifey driver), and a hugh CTS-V fan, but I am looking at a 06 SRT-8 Charger, 20 k miles, here in town. Beautiful car and all the bells and whistles, for about 28,500. Should I look for a V for the same price? Any thoughts!

I like the srt8, but in my opinion the v looks better and I wouldn't buy any performance car without a manual trans

I'd say drive them both and go from there. I was debating on the same two cars recently. I ended up w/the V, mainly because I personally like the looks of the V a little better, and they are much less common in my area than the SRT. I haven't driven an SRT, and I didn't drive a V before I bought mine. I ended up buying my V online since I couldn't find an '06 around here, let alone for a decent price.

It all depends - You are asking the question in heavily favored V forum. I test drove both before I bought my 06 V. I strictly liked it two reasons - stick shift and luxury car - No cop will be driving a CTS-V.

I have an SRT8 as well as the vette, so I'll step in here a sec. The only thing I don't like about the ChargerSRT8 is the tuning. It's way too safe for my tastes. The ESP system is very protective, but can be tuned away now with a predator. The car has more torque than you'd think, it's a real kick in the pants with the ESP off, and lights up the wheels at ease. The slap stick is fun and gives a break from full auto. It is heavy, coming in at almost 4200lbs, but it can really get up and scoot. When both were stock, the SRT8 hung with the C6 from 50-90mph on the hwy, beyond that, aerodynamics and weight killed it.On top of it all, the Charger just drips evilness, especially the SRT version, has a great sound stock, reguardless of what was posted earlier, and is quite the road handler for a big car.:D Don't expect to more than 12,000 miles out of the factory tires, though, and use cheaper replacement, they last longer and stick better(cooper zeons)

Cts-v > Srt-8
Damn all of you who type with the caps lock on!! I can never use all capitals when I actually need it!!!
You really need to drive both cars to compare. The SRT's sure do move out.
maybe this?

Well I did drive the SRT-8 last Saturday. It is a big heavy car, but runs like stink, very quick, my 17 yo was very impressed, but the dealer won't budge on 28,500, which I think is a good deal, but have not driven a v yet either. I would think the V would handle a bit better being smaller and would be a whole lot more fun with the six gear. My Z is fun with it. But I want a SC for the Z so the car might have to wait

It really comes down to whether you're a "straight-line" or "crooked road" person.
I personally think that most drag strip folks (or cruiser folks) would like the SRT better for it's automatic transmission.
If you crave the mountain roads, or spend a bit of track time (or even an occasional autocross), you'll like the V better.
Even though there's probably some Mercedes DNA floating around in the SRT's chassis, it needs some help from Jenny Craig before you do too much tossing it around. :emb:
There's one more item in the V's favor......fuel mileage! An automatic, especially one that's cammed enough to need a higher stall converter, will be hard put to touch a manual in a fuel consumption comparison.

Two entirley different cars in my opinion. SRT-8 packages are for the muscle car crowd. V is more of a euro sport sedan type. This is the biggest issue with the V on the street scene. The car has ample power to impress the guys who race wheel to wheel about 15 seconds at a time on a boulevard, but it's design purpose was to smoke BMWs and Audis that cost 20 grand more on a real race track. The SRT-8 has a whole different market focus, seat of the pants whole shot burnouts that make muscle cars what they are. Almost comparing apples and oranges here.

I was facing the same decision. Both cars have great packages as far as performance and options, but in my opinion the cts-v is the better buy. you get better gas mileage, 6-speed manual and best of all you have a corvette powerplant. with the exception of the rear ends in the cts-v you cant ask for a better all around sport luxury car. and as soon as i find a red or black cts-v with the woodgrain interior w/about 20000 miles or so i will be a cts-v owner myself.

Woodgrain interior???? That will be hot!

Im in the same boat man! Ive been looking at the cts-v for a while now and im also looking at the srt8 the 300c version though. Im leaning towards the cts-v the six speed basically sells it on me and not to mention another big thing is the warranty, you can get the 100k warranty on the V and i think the srt series only comes with a three year and Ive heard bad things about them standing behind it. There was a guy on the other forum who went to the dealer he bought his srt8 from and they told him that they didnt have a tech certified to work on it and he needed to go 150 miles north to the next closest dealeship with a tech!!! :bang:

I ran a friend's srt-8 charger a while back in my V. both of us were bone stock. I won from a dig, from a roll, in twisties, and on straights. Just a thought.

the new chargers are the shit i have a loaded r/t and i love it. i am thinking about going to a cts-v or a g8 gt one day though. not because i dislike the charger just theres way less cts-v's on the road. i hate having a car everyone else has.

Dont ask your opinion on the SRT-8 Charger from CTS fans - it'll all become one sided. . . .for one and two honestly you wont get the truth from either side. - ask a car forum in general :) - one that is multi car.

I'm having the same dilemma also but I prefer the 300C SRT-8 and what I prefer about the 300 is the spacious interior. I have a family of 4 and my son is 14 and 5-9 and still growing not including my daughter and wife. But I do prefer a 6sp because of the drive. Hell I drive 100+ per day and I want to enjoy the ride. If y'all know what I mean!

You really can't go wrong with either its a matter of personal taste I think.
As mentioned by others they are very different cars with different purposes although both share tremendous speed. Caddy might be a bit more luxurious, and then theres the exclusivity thing which also favors the V. Having driven both I can tell you there is much to like about the V and the SRT-8! Get your best deal, and make sure you have an extended warranty, both these cars can be very costly to fix! Hope this helps.

I drove both befor I purchased my V.
Was considering both of them very seriously. The V just got me the first time that I ran it hard into a corner camedown on those monster Brembos and then carved the corner out, dropped it into second, wound it to just shy of sixty, squirled the rear a hair grabbing third and catapulting down the next stretch.
I just felt much more connected in the V than I did in the Charger. Plus the Charger is like the big bad Wolf. However the V is a Wolf in sheeps clothing. It lures more unsuspecting victims than any car I've ever had.
