Default Duals Vs. Cat-Back

Who, if anybody has ANY dyno evidence of power gains with duals or loss with Y-Cat-back? I have gone from SLP LM2 to SLP LM1 to 3" Sweet Thunder TDs&X-Pipe..and am now considering going back to a Y-Pipe with maybe Hooker Cat-Back. Now I will agree that its easy to assume that true duals are going to net more power....BUT how much....and where in the RPMs? I love how my TDs sound, and they will flat scare the Flowmaster off of Mustangs...BUT...They rattle my car, they gas me, set off alarms, drag, and sometimes just get annoying when you need to talk on the phone. Bottom line, I guess they arent for everyone...and maybe not the best choice for an all around street car...especially if you want to be sleeper at all or drop your car. So back to my original point...where are the Dyno sheets?...Or is everyone just assuming that they will gain XX HP with duals?...

There's someone on here with the Bassani TD exhaust, which they installed after having the Borla catback. they have a dynosheet showing like a 14-16 WHP gain. if you just search "bassani" you'll probably find it since he's in a lot of the bassani TD threads.

They're are other factors to consider there.

Yea...everyone is quick to say they gained something..well I have gone to the track with the same car on different days and had a few tenths difference. In my case it was obviously track prep/weather/etc.. So..maybe the exhaust did it....maybe not?.

The extra weight of the true duals cancel out any HP gain , besides , all the NASCAR teams use the Y pipe system .

I think ?PatrickG? has a nice Y-pipe set-up. I'm looking to try to duplicate his idea eventually. I think he only lost like 4 horse when closing the cutout.

hah! How much do you think a set true duals weigh? Mine are off the car anyway, want me to weigh them? Anyone want to guess?

Mine are heavy as hell....probably twice as heavy as the y-pipe and Loudmouth combined that it replaced. My TDs are 3" Flowmaster Mandrel pipe, X-Pipe and Sweet Thunders.

Yep, he is a great example of NOT needing true duals. 500+ on motor with a nicely done Y-Pipe setup. I know of 700HP+ forced induction Y-Pipe cars. So I really dont see the "need". I understand the "want"...but nobody can really say they need them unless they are making serious power.

The Y fits better, which matters most to me. I don't like the rigged feel, clearance issues of true duals.

I like the sound of duals myself. I think they sound a whole lot better than a cat-back setup and I would be willing to bet that 90+ percent of the time they provide a noticable gain over a cat-back. Duals do have worse clearence which I would say is there biggest down fall. Weight is going to vary setup to setup and I would say some duals are probably lighter. To me it just depends if your worried about ground clearence or not.

do this:

all Y pipes that come in LT header systems arent really designed for max power. they just slam the 2 pipes together. with a GOOD merge collector, and correct sized piping, a Y pipe can flow A LOT and make good power without the cost and hassel of TD's

Duals cost less usually.

maybe for a dumped system, but if you run it all the way back its gonna be a lot.

dumps are great if yur looking for nothing more than power, but theyre going to be loud, drone, rattle, and scrape to some extent.

Rock, yea I would agree. I dont expect to get anything to sound much better than my car does now. And yea Tainted, I was thinking about doing that. I think thats the major downfall of most Y systems is the merge.
