central illinois street drags
Hey everybody, We're working on putting together some street racing style events much like the flashlight drags in Hot Rod this month. They'll be in the Springfield/Decatur area. We'll be having meetings with some folks this coming week about a few possible locations. Just trying to get a feel for the interest so I can pitch it to the property owners. Rules would be simple, mufflers and dot type tires and thats about it. Just flag or flashlight start racing, no timing equipment and probably 1/8th mile. Racing would probably cost $20 for all the passes you can make and spectators would be around 5 or 6 bucks. Anybody interested? Thanks, Greg

Right now we're just talking about grudge racing for fun. No cash prizes and I obviously can't condone any gambling. I'd love to see it grow into something later that may include payouts but for now we just want to get something going. We started making calls today about places to do it and got a much better reception than I anticipated. We'd like to have the first one around the end of March if the weather permits. Thanks, Greg

You'd be more than welcome to set up your own races. We've actually been talking about coordinating some match races with this anyway to draw crowds. I'm sticking with not condoning any gambling but you're all adults. It's a grudge racing format anyway. Race who you want, go heads up, negotiate lengths, we just want to have a good time doing some street racing that no one gets in trouble over and stays safe.

We're still working on the details. First things first we need to get someone to say OK as for a place to do it. Liability is a big concern so that's why we are probably going with a 1/8 mile street tire format. Full boogie race cars may scare the guys at the airport. Another big factor is going to be the noise. Mufflers will be a necessity. Prepping may be OK as long as it doesn't hold up the show. We are probably looking at running from Noon to 6PM and want everyone to get as many runs as they want. Another big concern the airport guys have already mentioned are cars getting loose and taking out the runway lights so the liability waiver may have verbiage saying the driver is responsible for damages to the property. I'd love to see some exciting heads up racing with a purse, whether or not we can do it the first time we don't know yet. Our budget is tight for the first show and the main selling point to the airport guys is splitting the gate with them. They need the revenue in a bad way. Would you guys consider paying a higher entry fee with whatever amount above the regular $20 going into a pot for the payout. And how much of the risk are you willing to accept to run some really fast cars.r We really aren't in this for the money but it has to be profitable to make it work. Any and all feedback and ideas are appreciated. Drop me an email at ncperformance@hotmail.com or give me a call at the shop at 217-676-2660 or at home in the evenings at 217-325-3329. Or of course keep making posts here. This will be a great deal when we get it going and it would be a great help if I could get some idea of how many people would seriously plan on being there both racing and spectating. When we get a definite green light we'll put a registration form of some sort on out website and give you a discount for prepaying. Our first meeting is Next Monday Jan 7 and they want some idea about the projections. Thanks alot everybody, Greg
