Default Nine in certen section set up help

We are trying to set up a nine inch center section. We got to the point where the patern was correct on the teeth. We tried using the side adjusters to set back lash and bearing preload. Did not have much luck. How do use the side adjusters? How tight do you make them? How do you adjust backlash?

Thanks for the help.

lets see if i can help here, i did a posi swap in my 9in and if i remember right you want .004 to .006 of preload for new bearings. what i did was set the backlash than tighten both side adjusters on hole witch should equal about .005. i did this on both sides and checked the back lash one more time and than locktighted the screws for the tabs that hold the adjusters in place. i hope this helpes, that was the first time i did anything on a 9 in and i put more than a thousand miles on it with no problems.

Screw the adjusters in and out on each side to adjust the backlash. .006-.010" for the setting unless using OEM Ford Gears. I would actually tighten a couple holes on each side to ensure you have good preload.

The tooth pattern is you to find where to center the gear.

The adjusters move the ring gear and carrier side to side, which sets the backlash between the ring gear and the pinion gear. You use a dial indicator to ensure you have the right amount of backlash.
