Default aluminum downpipe?

i found a post on another board about it and was wondering if anyone here has done it? I dont know if aluminum can take that much heat but my downpipe is only going to be about 4 feet long. I am just always worried about weight i am trying to keep the car under 3100 pounds race ready

they use a 11guage bend right off the turbo, then switch to 14 guage. i have 4 boxes of bends waiting to be welded right now.

Somewhere you can buy coating, paint it on yourself, and just the engine running will cure it.

Aluminum piping can be polished, anodized, hard anodized, powder coated or painted. The anodizing process actually becomes part of the metal, and is a pretty tough surface. Hard anodizing is even tougher - it's the grey coating they use on fine cookware.

Jim, i have seen rocker covers hard anodized and then hit with a hammer! i think it was still 0-0 after the third time! lol really impresive finish to (he had a rough finish).

The questions is can you get a 5" turbo connection in aluminum. I'd get the bends from Global tech, I've got 2 5" aluminum bends here now.

my worry is i was looking at it yesterday and i have to make a 90 degree right of the turbo. I might just do mild steel. I think the pipe will only be about 3 foot total. I wonder what the weight difference is between 3 feet of aluminum vs 3 feet of mild steel?

You'd be surprised. I'd say that the aluminum is 1/3 the weight of steel. My 5" downpipe is pretty damn heavy and would love to change it over to aluminum but need the 5" flange at the turbo to do it.

7.5" radius is the tightest. They sell them in MANY different radius.
