General LSX Automobile Discussion - I believe I'll switch to LS1 form LT1

My 94 z28 is racking up on miles and I have put so much money and effort into the car...it just feels like something is always wrong with it. I'm trying to sell my car and I believe I'm going to get a 98-02 either z28 or trans am. I also wanted a stick shift and I can get more power in an ls1 with bolt-ons anyways so I am done with the lt1 world....soon to be hello to ls1's!

I hope I wont....I was looking forward to make this decision....I think it is a wise one even though college is ahead and money is tight. I will need a more realiable vehicle

I've owned 5 LT1's and 6 LS1's. I really had fun with them and they will hold a special place in my heart because I loved the 93-97 Camaro front end especially 96-97 SS. Still my favorite body style 4th gen. My 2 current cars are LS1's:)

GOOD. You're better off getting a LS1 vehicle than swapping one into your LT1 car...

ugh, just hearing that word makes me cringe.....i'm kinda glad i missed the whole "LT1 movement"....my brother has a 95 Z28, and his opti is out right now, for i think the 2nd time.....i'd have no part of it all......

thanks guys.....and for 96mikez28 if that was sarcastic then I am a 17 year old who is in high school and works 2 jobs. Almost every penny I got went into paying for my car or doing stuff to it. In 2007 it got a whole new rear end(almost 1000 bucks) a new transmission(close to 1500 bucks) and new plugs, wires, front lca bushing, and an alignment(over 500 bucks) plus a couple other small things.

My 01 SS w/bolt-ons and 3.73 gears still gets a lot better gas mileage than my bone stock 95 LT1 Z and both are 6-spd cars :judge:

Yeah I can't believe how bad my gas mileage is....babying the car I get 15 mpg and I have exhaust and intake. Thats not going above about 65 mph.

I've read somewhere something to the effect that drilling a small weep hole in the bottom of the optispark to allow moisture to escape will stop it from going bad so often, anybody back this up?

but you would have to deal with water going in in case you drive into an invisible puddle until its too late, and it may cause arcing causing the spark to escape from thoes cylinder terminals close to the hole.

Good Luck man, I'm going that route here in a few years. I want to build the LT1 and then when it's all said and done. I'll pick up an LS1 cheap and do it the same way. They are by far the superior motors. Good Luck again. You won't regret it at all.
Especially when you compare the most bang for the buck as opposed to the LT1's bang for the buck modifications :)

Sounds like a money pit. Probably a good thing you are choosing to get rid of it. I wouldn't want to be footing the bill for a new engine...

I don't know, never had an lt1, never seen the optijunk, just read about that. I would think though unless it's submerged or very exposed water wont splash into a say3/32" hole or whatever it said. I know like on other electrical components often you have to have the junction box rotated the right way to have the weep hole down, that's why it made sense to me to drill the optidung a weep hole like some other electrical boxes I've seen through work.
What I should have said was if interested in the idea do a search to find out more than the hearsay from me, but the concept is out there.
