Default quick help with cam selection please!!

hi guys, i live in california and i want to do a cam install soon! i do not want to remove the cylinder heads so i want a cam with proper valve clearance.i do not want a cam that will be very noticeable from exhaust note, i jus want a cam that will idle properly and will not give me problems in the long run. but i want a cam that will give me very close #'s to 400WHP, my car is a daily driver. the two cams that i have been looking at from thunder racing are the "227 xTReme" - 227/227 .639/.639 116 LSA but im not sure if this will clear the piston, and the other one is the "TR 224-112" - 224/224 .563/.563 112 LSA
the 224 cam showed 398WHP on a 98 trans am with stock heads and with FLP Long Tube headers, Whisper Lid, LS6 intake manifold, ported throttle body, ASP Pulley Aluminum Flywheel, and Carbon Fiber Driveshaft. so what do u guys think let me know if there are any other cams i should consider! i will also be calling comp cams and thunder racing tomarow for a recomendation! thanks alot guys happy new year

get the 224R. It should get you through as CA sniffer test after a tune and still give you plenty of power!

yea well thats ausome to hear that i can pass smog wit that! but im not concerned about smog since i know i few guys that can pass the sniffer for me for about 60 bucks, but i do like that cam, but what do u think about the clearance on the 227, that cam has alot of lift! and thunder racing says it idles like a 224!

tr224 is proven to be one of the most basic, dd, powerful cam across the rpm range. Sounds like its for you.

Either get the 224 or get Pat G from TR to spec you one out. Don't get the other one mention it has wayyyyyy to much lift for a DD. You'll need to change springs all the time. Atleast every spring depending on milleage maybe more.

cool man thanks for your opinion! now i know the 227 is out of my choices, but i really dont care bout the smog in my town so i want somethin with just a little bit more u know, how about the "Split Pattern" - 224/227 .563/.569 114 LSA, but this one says for nitrous or supercharger aplications, i dont plan on doing neither and this one "Reverse Split" - 227/224 .569/.563 114 LSA , but this one says for larger valves or heavily milled heads!! i guess if i cant get anything a little better then the 224 i guess i have to get a 224! im gonna
call thunder racing and see if they can grind the perfect cam for me!!

You better jsut call up TR, sounds like you have allot of questions. Those cams need headers by the way and I took for granted that you ahve them or will be getting them. Most important mod in my mind, in saying that the cheater cam is designed to use stock manifolds. In my mind, garbage. Get some LT's and a cam spec'd from Patrick G at TR and tell him what your goals are and what you want the car to do. No questions asked he'll take care of you.

Thats a quite recent one that would probably do the job for him, but I'd step it up to a 228/228 myself. End up getting a 228/232 .612/.602 110+4 (Give or take on the lift) This is ME though and think that either the 224 or 226 would do him right.

hey guys i talked to patrick G and he recommended me a 226/232 .609/.604 113LSA, does that sound like a good one it has to be custom grind and what valve springs will be the longest lasting?? this sounds like a pretty good cam for a dd doesent it? and will this take me close to the 400WHP range where i wanna be. thanks guys
