Should I go with 19's? Bad for Performance/Traction on a 550 HP car?

Default Should I go with 19's? Bad for Performance/Traction on a 550 HP car?

During the spring, I will be hooking up my Nitrous kit to my Head/Cam'd car and should be around 550/600. Currently I have the 17" TTM with 315 Nitto 555R's and I've been thinking about ditching them for the HP Design's Lightning SS or as they were formerly known: The HP Evos. Would 19"s cause me to lose traction? If I gunned it down the streets would I jus' spin?

Thanx

-James

It wont affect traction as much as acceleration...
I would think 19's means heavier which means slower accelleration and your traction should be fine. BUT SLOWER...

Yea, I was thinking I'd lose some ponies from the added weight but I was talking more about the low-profile tires that would be equipped?

It was proven in GM High Tech, when you go to a larger size rim traction is decreased. Like from going from a 19in to a 15in you should get much better traction with the 15's. The only thing that 19's would be good for is gas mileage maybe.

I actually want to make the inverse switch of you and go from my 19'' ADR's to 17'' TTMs. Theres nothing wrong with the 19's and they look great, but I feel when I get on it light to light I'm leaving some on the table.

If you don't care tons tons about street traction and have separate tires for drag, then I'd go with 19's they look great and you can still get decently grippy tires for them. If you want more traction on the street then stay with ur 17''s.

that depends on the overall diameter of the tire not necessarily the rim size.

If you go with 285/35/19 they are not bad. My buddy is running that on his Camaro. They ride reat and grab. kdw2s... And yes that would make them bigger then stock but they fit and look badd ***

Ya you will def. benefit with having a good size sidewall for better traction, espeically having 600 hp on tap, Im running 295-35 BFG drag radials with an 18 inch wheel and they grab great, so I dont know if a 19 in tire will be much different,

Not to highjack this thread but I am putting 18x12 FM5 w/ 345/30/18 BFG Drag radial on the rear of my car and was wanting to know if that will hook better then my 17x9.5 w/ 315/35/17 Nitto Drag radials? And how much better or worse? Thanks
