Default GM Goodwrench Replacement Engines, $3,551 w/ 100K-Mile Warranty?

On SDPC's Web page (http://www.sdparts.com/catalog/crate...teEngines.aspx), it says:

88893286GM Goodwrench Replacement Engines 2000 Chevrolet Corvette (LS1)(5.7G) MFI Alum$4,551.54
So, i don't know what the difference is or why they cost different amounts, but the "Pontiac F" looked like a steal, so I clicked on it.

New GM Goodwrench engines include:

cylinder block
head and valve train assembly
camshaft
lifters
oil pump
piston assemblies (connecting rods, pins and rings)
timing components
bearings
seals
all tin ware
It seems to me it's $3,551.11 for a complete, assembled long block, maybe minus the intake and coils, but with a 100K-mile limited warranty. That sounds like a pretty damn good deal if you have a 113K-Mile '99 Z28 like I do... Wonder if it has the 243 heads?

Am I missing something? Probably am.

You're not missing anything. GM Goodwrench engines have the best warranty in the business! That warranty is also good at ANY, and yes I mean any, GM dealer in the nation! If you have a simple problem, take it to your dealer and they fix or replace what's wrong. Now some people complain that they don't trust their dealer....in some areas that's understandable and the service manager at the dealer can in some cases approve the warranty/labor to be done by an independent service facility!

243's were also on the 4.8L truck motors and I think they're also on the new LS4 FWD V8 cars too.

And that's incorrect. 4.8L trucks got the same castings as the 5.3L trucks got.

The LS4 did have the same castings as the LS6/LS2 however, so you weren't completely wrong.

^Good question.

Also, if it doesn't come with the 243's then what heads does it come with?

And, what all doesn't come with this engine? There's so much I don't need, like coils, intake, manifolds...

My daily driver, my only car, is in the garage. Knock-knock-knock-knock!

Can't figure out a way to configure another engine for as much or less using your budget 346 shortblock ($2,789) even with Patriot's super Christmas heads/cam sale prices: CNC ported 243 castings with oem (non-sodium valves), Patriot Gold Dual springs, Patriot 225/229 .580"/.590" 114 lsa cam, oem head bolts, and hardened pushrods all for $1,395.That's $4,184 without oil pump (which I need) or timing chain...

SDPC,

Is this for one or a pair of LS6 (243) heads, and if so, would they bolt right up to your budget short block, and if so, what would be the cost of hainvg you do so?

If you get my drift, I'm trying to upgrade my LS1 and get a new one at the same time for the least amount of money possible.

Budget shortblock: $2,789.
SDPC Blueprinted Oil Pump: $150.
LS6 2002-2003 Cylinder Head Assembly: $750.
2002 and Newer LS1 / LS6 Head Gasket Kit: $26.
Head Bolt Kit, LS1 1997-2003, Kit for One Head (x2): $36

Sub total: $3,751
Labor: $???
Custom-grind Comp cam kit with hardened pushrods: $???
Labor for that installed: $???
Shipping to 62439: $???

Like I say, my only car/daily driver is down right now, so I'm no window shopper.

Those are individual heads. But for a budget head, you could go with the LS2 heads instead and still get the great flow of the LS6....just with a slightly heavier valve in the head. They are a good bit less expensive too!

Sorry, they got removed from that page somehow. I added them back and updated the LS2 head's info!

SDPC,

For the LS2 heads you offer, are they shipped ready to be bolted on and go (minus the gaskets), or are there other parts needed before bolting them on (valves, springs, rods, etc.)?

Also, for the LS6 hollow stem valves, is that one package for BOTH heads, ALL valves? With that upgrade, are the LS2's basically LS6's at that point?

I'm asking because 1) the awesome steal of a deal on the LS2's and 2) I have a .562 lift cam in my car now (the LS6's state that they can only take a cam lift of .550 and less, so I'm guessing I can't go that route without having to get a new cam...)

Just responded to a fire in my company's 4-door cavalier... The guys gave me sooo much **** 'cuase they know I'm hating not haveing my Camaro!

Alan, thanks for the reply. Will be calling you.

Otherwise, for anyone who's following this, The above LS6 prices didn't include rocker arms (head prices never do, duh) and were for only one head. The assembled LS2 heads are $600 a pair and are part number 12576063. That changes the cost of my unofficial SDPC budget build to:

Budget shortblock: $2,789.
SDPC Blueprinted Oil Pump: $150.
LS2 Cylinder Head Assembly: $600
2002 and Newer LS1 / LS6 Head Gasket Kit: $26.
Head Bolt Kit, LS1 1997-2003, Kit for One Head (x2): $36
Rocker Arms and bolts: $???
Custom grind Comp cam: $???
Pushrods: $???

Gah, if I were smart, I'd just get the Goodwrench replacement for $3,551... That's just no fun.

I have a question for SPDC on this motor just because I'm a curious cat Do these engines come with the "LS6" block with bay to bay breathing windows and improved oiling, or are they built with the 98-00 LS1 blocks? Thanks,

Larry

I just want to say that Alan @ Xtreme Horsepower came at me with an ***-kicking quote on an assembled long block shipped, so righteous that I wouldn't even feel guilty about not purchasing the Goodwrech replacement engine...

Thanks, Alan!
