Exclamation Motive 4.10 gears? opinions anyone?

i am in the market for some 4.10's. I read that many aftermarket gears whine. My friend has a set of motive 4.10's in his 99 z28 with the stock 10 bolt. I have a 2000 Z-28.. is motive a good choice? and will i need a rebuild kit? I am hoping that these gears will give me 3 tenths in the 1/4..let me know what u guys think

I went with the motive 4.10's after talking to alot of people on here and some people that I know personally that had them. They are a good gear. Mine whines a little bit, but it's my fault cause I didn't properly break them in. As far as .3 tenths in the quarter that depends on your driving ability and track prep. With the setup in my sig, I went from a 13.4 stock to a 12.93 spinning bad with a bad clutch and tranny. I got those problems fixed and haven't been back yet so I could be faster. With the 4.10's gas mileage in the city really sucks ***, but on the highway I didn't notice much of a difference. I'm only running about 300rpms higher than the 3.42's in 6th at 80mph.

I had Motive Performance in my 10 bolt and I now have them in my 9" for 2 reasons, Strong and Quiet. I would Highly recomend them.

And yes if you are going to do a gear swap I would put a master rebuild kit in it.

Be carefull, 10 bolt is a pyle of **** and don't be surprised to find your pumpkin explode in a grenade like fashion if you run it at the track with stickies. You should be ok for a while with a stock car with street tires.

I would reccomend the Motive PERFORMANCE Gear and the Master Install Kit. We have them on our website, let me know if I can help.

Aint that the truth, GM puts a rear end built for a 2,000 pound 4 cylinder car in a 3,500# performance car, engineering minds on crack.

Needless to say I have tried 3.42, 3.73, 4.10 and 4.56 gears in mine, they all broke

GM needs a in the face for that great feat of engineering.

Actually they were out in 3500 lb cars in the late 70's and even heavier cars in the 80's. Sure less power and less tire, but in stock LS1's that arent abused they survive pretty well. You cant really blame GM for people using their cars beyond its intended purpose.

I do think they should have used a larger diff though.

Had them(Motives) in my last 2 or 3. I dropped from 12.50's @ 114 to 12.20's @ 117 on Kumho 711's 4 years ago. A definite must with a cammed car.

I run Motive 4.10s in my car, and they've been better to me than the stock Torsen
