Default Price for mounting 2 tires - 315s = $75?

Last night I received my new 17x11x35 wheels for the SS fronts and will be mounting 315x17x35 Verdistein tires on the set.

When I did the rear 315 set a few weeks ago, a national tire store in by town charged me 75 clams to mount the tires. They claimed the high cost was a result of the diffuclty in mounting a super-wide 315 tire on an 11 inch rim.

I think this is BULL.

What is an appropriate price for mounting two tires; I assume this would be below $40; right?

Can I take these wheels and tires to a typical gas station for mounting?

I used to mount those up for 12 dollars a piece with balancing!

I usually don't charge any of my friends though.

They can be a bitch to mount if you dont know what your doing and dont have the correct machine. Also if you have nice wheels you have to be very careful. I taped mine off with tape and such as percaution. After spening 3k on wheels i didnt want them to get scratched.

...they claimed to have to use a special balancing machine; is that possible?

That's some major BS. I get my friends to do them for me. Doesn't cost me a thing.

How did you do this? Also I believe all/most places charge about $12 a wheel... $70 for (2) is riduculous

at the dealer ship we charge 20 bucks per rim. regardless of the size. and if they had to have a special balancer did they have to send it off? prolly not, they have the balancer ours is like 10 years old and it can do tires up to 13" wide.

I got quoted $125 for my set of 315's and I laughed at em as I drove away. Went to a small tire shop that wasn't busy and asked how much while in the truck (they didn't want to lose a sale) 12 bucks each and they got my business.

They only need a balancer that is set up for truck tires not car tires and most shops have both.

I'm not sure how they doe it in Texas, but In Arkansas that Tire Disposal charge they slap on it is a tax. and that goes to the state, but on all of Reynolds and Reynolds programs it has a code you put in for it when closing an RO, then 20 bucks for an environmental fee, which is BS

$12 a wheel? I work for Tire Kingdom, and that's what "basic" tire service is.. we're SUPPOSED to charge more for bigger rims/tires, lower profile, etc. They never do, and it's pretty lame given that those kinds of tires are a lot harder to do. 75$ is excessive, however.

I laid the rim down on the garage floor, took the tire, soaped the **** out of the edges, and just slid them on the rims with the help of a buddy, then got the air hose out, seated the bead and was set to go. balancing however had to be done by a shop.

I feel your pain on this one. The cost for mounting and balancing two 17" x 11" rims on my Corvette hit me for $90.00 back when I was in New Jersey. In hindsight, I should've just found a small local shop and got them to slap the rims on for a reasonable price!

I do mounting and balancing on the side. I usually charge $80 for 4 tires mounted and balanced. Some tires can be a huge bitch, it's not unusual to have another guy helping me. $75 is a lot though.

Th "special" balancing is probably their Road Force balancer.
