Default Shelby Cobra GT 500 , Brogue/York, PA

Had someone in a new gt 500 try to out run me today. Anyone seen this car around? Very nice. I missed 3rd when he took off. But it sure didn't sound like the car in I Am Legend. lol or maybe mine was too loud. Wouldn't mind inviting them to a car meet in York sometime. I know of a guy in Brogue of owns one but I'm not sure if it was him or not since we drove well past Brogue.

Why is that? Do you know of one?
I'm sure it's quick but does it run 11's?

Don't they run mid to low 12's stock? From mid to low 12's to 10's with a few bolt-ons? I think you need a few more misc things. If I had 4:10's & 12 bolt, upgrade fuel lines, I would easily be in the low 11's with a naturally aspirated engine with stock lower internals(crank, pistons). Only if I had a turbo or supercharger

I saw one at atco in 55 degrees it ran 10.80's@127
Mods were pulley, headers and no cats, catback,dr's,cai, tuning.
It still had the plastic on the seats and the window sticker on it too.

The GT500 is no joke....

If I had a catapult and booster rockets, I'd be in the 9s.

What is Stage III+ anyway?

lol.. Must have had a great launch. The guy who owned my engine before me ran 11.2 @ 126 (may have been in the 130+ can't remember). You've listed a few more bolt on's..Besides that's only one you've seen. I've seen mods that should run easily in the 10's & still hit high 11's. Depends on too many factors. Let see them run 10's on a hot day. Motor Trend or Car&Drive lost 4 sec. on lap times (not sure about drag) due to hot weather. What would our cars do with a similar setup?

It's a clutch. stage 3 plus. It's basicly stronger than a Stage 3.

I got bored of it but to tell u the truth I miss it..I shoudve kept it,added a TH400 W/Brake,bigger cam and took another 200lb out of it.The car was so docile for what it was,it rode hard as hell but engine wise it was a mild setup..I truely believe with the added mods I described it wouldve went 10.40's on motor..

Its for sale again....
15,900 and its yours,its on www.cars.com

I think u could get the car for 13K if u bargained properly..
Its a steal at 13,000

Nice price. I would be in trouble if I owned another Trans Am. lol. My 01 WS6 doesn't get much love as it is.

There is a GT500 around Allentown. Of all places to park a car like that I saw it on Main st. in Emmaus parked along the side of the street. That's like hanging a christmas ornament within reach of cats. You just shouldn't do it.

For those who state the GT500 is no joke, well I beg to differ a bit. Not to get into a war by any means, just that for bone stock, a 500 HP car should perform way above the median 12.7's this car makes at the 1320.(the lowest stock et was achieved by FF&MM contibuter and pro driver Evan Smith at 12.28, no one truely stock has come within 1.5 of that). Most drivers are lucky to get high 12's to mid 13's stock. Yes , they take to mods well, becoming dyno darlings, but most of the hype that the GT500 owners spew is taken directly from just a couple of pro-shop build GT500s, like the Evolution GT500, and they have more mods, time, and money poured into them than the typical owner is gonna do.We have a few around here in various states of stock and modified, including some with KB upgrades, tunes, gears, pullys, etc, and for the most part, these cars can't get out of their own way. That being said, alot of the drivers could use a mod or two themselves. While mid 12's stock may be close to a high point for Mustang owners, in todays sport car world, mid 12's stock is like 14's back 10 years ago."Stock" cars are getting much faster, look at the upcoming CTS-V, look at the Z06, ZR1 and even the LS2/LS3 C6s..Hell, even the SRT8 Chargers have run bests of 12.7's stock for some drivers, and thats at 4100lbs,two more doors than the gt500 and a really conservitive stock tune. The SRT8 Challenger should be mid 12's with about 100 less HP than the GT500,and hopefully, if GM puts a real powerplant in the Camaro, we may see mid to low 12's in it as well.Slap some drs on any of the aforementioned cars and you're flirting with 11's all day, maybe breaking into them. The GT500 owners are modifing their cars as soon as they take delivery for the most part...why...? They don't want to show up to the track and get bested by stock 03 Cobras and 4th Gen F Bodies. Hopefully for the mustang crowd, the SuperSnake and GT500KR will make more of a showing than the lack-luster GT500 has, but for the money those cars will fetch, they should.

Yea those gt500's can be quick with light mods they have a good stock clutch and a good rear out of the box. Here is a guy that we know he has tune filter upper pulley some suspension work drag radials catback and gears and his best is 10.65 @ 130 im pretty sure his car is full weight or pretty close the guy can drive good and goes drag racing all the time. Here is a link to the shelby fast times list http://www.svtperformance.com/forums...d.php?t=331973. Im obviously not brand worthy at all or anything im just showing you guys that these cars can run. I have seen alot that dont run that good but there is some people out there that can drive. Btw the guy that we know that runs 10's in his gt500 also has some family with gt500's and I believe they go 10's with similar mods to him.

Evilways good points. For 500HP the car doesn't respond like it has that much. The C6 could out run it with nearly 100hp less(but C6 is lighter & only sits 2 people). Imagine the "simple" bolt-on mods on a C6 (not the zo6). Any car could be fast (**** Example). Not to start another complex GT 500 talk. I'm a car fan & I like any car. The facts are that as a stock car it's decent for a supercharged engine(but not amazing)& weight.. more thana few bolt-ons it's potential grows. I've seen 10's online but mid to low 12's at the track. So a hand full have great 1/4 mile times. GM still makes the best N/A 8cyl. in my opinion. Forced Induction on our cars is a wonderful thing. NOW GET BACK TO MY THREAD. If you know this person that would be great. I will make friends and take a ride & get back to you all. lol
