Default Need to decide on a rear end, opinion's...

I was pretty dead set on a Strange 12 bolt, 33 splines, True-Trac, etc.

Now I'm thinking, hmm maybe I should go 9" (aluminum center) or even the newer Moser M9. I dunno about the S60.

So the car will always be a street car and probably always have an auto in it. At some point in time it might get a new block with I assume a good 500 streetable horses.

So what do you guys think?

I know JL-WS6 runs his 9 sec car with a 12 bolt. I just wanna do this once, but I would prefer not to have an anchor on the back or a spool or anything too insane. This will probably happen later this spring so I got time to think about it. The only thing I know for sure is I'll be going with a 3.73 gear (or the 9" equivalent). Oh and I hope to cut the occasional sub 1.5 60".

Thanks in advance.

Id say your fine with the Strange, as long as its a Updated Eaton diff which it should be your fine. If your going to race heavily maybe then you can consider a 9"

I won't competitively race, maybe a few dozen passes a year. I also only put about 7k street miles a year on it.

With that said I'm not overly concerned with harsh ride. I've already got a spohn TA, SFC, LCA's, poly motor mounts, etc. So it's not exactly squishy anyways

I just don't want this thing screaming at me when I'm cruising it either.

It will make noise, if gears are installed by any company. If you have it done locally great care can be used to set up the gear and reduce chance of noise. But regardless when raced (even occasionally) the gears will make more noise

I'd stay away from an aluminum center for a street car. aluminum allows more deflection and can cause gear noise pretty easily...

I've been fine with the mose 12 bolt so far, gears are a little loud but have been from the beginning. Still have the posi in it and all, but that will be switched for a spool in the near future.

I think for what you are planning, a 12 bolt will work, I think the S60 is total overkill, the moser M9 setup is nice, and if you are looking at doing a tq arm if ya haven't already that might be a good option.

For an automatic car, a Moser or Strange 12 bolt with the TrueTrac will be absolutely fine for you. If it were a 6spd, I'd say to go with the 9". In that case, Fireball is dead on:

If you're wanting a good deal, we're Moser dealers and I have some very competitive prices on their stuff.

Thanks for the info all. If I go with a 12 bolt I think I will stick with the Strange. From what I have heard the Moser units are a bit hit or miss with gear whine and torque arm mount points.

I plan on installing the rear myself and the Strange seems like a piece of cake.

I really like those Moser M9 setups though. I already got the Torque Arm, but I could sell it off. However I am not sure if they offer a Posi option in that rear at all, I think only in the standard 9".

So far I think I'm sticking to my original plans then. The car will never be a single digit car, consistent high 10's is what I would like to see on motor.

Strange will be fine.

I disagree with the aluminum center sections. Keith and Mike both have them and put a ton of miles on them.Keith probly has 40k on his and 50-80 track passes.

I was debating between the Strange 12 bolt, and a Moser 9". I went with the 9" because I didn't want to screw around with sending in my backing plates. I got a Moser 9" with an aluminum center, spool, and 4.11's. It will be going in the car in the next couple weeks, I just painted it yesterday.

Let me know what you think of it. Do you drive the car a lot on the street? That's a pretty aggressive rear.

I believe a thread in the drag racing forum stated that the S60 draws less hp than the 9 inch for what its worth.

If you are interested I might be selling my mosler 12bolt. It has about 1k miles on it. Its a tru-track, 3 channel, 4.10's, fullu painted with POR15, upgraded axles and diff cover etc. I mostly autox and really want to get a Torsen T2R diff, they only make it for the 10bolt and 9in. let me know if you are interested

I like my Strange 12 bolt. Very little gear noise, bolts in like stock and hasn't given me any trouble yet. I'm not a big fan of the way the Moser bolts to the torque arm.

I have a strange just like you want and I would never buy one again I have busted mine more times then I can count already I am gonna be putting in a spool and the next time it breaks it is going to scrap metal. I would go with a 9 inch wich is cheaper in some cases also. check out epp they have good deals.
