Default MS3 vs MS4, whats the difference?

I know the MS4 has proven to provide more RWHP, however I am curious to the driving behaiviors of both cams when compared to each other. Both are very top end peak monsters, but is one worse than the other? Does one have more midrange/drivability than the other?

Ideally I would love to see two dyno sheets from each with similarly modded cars.

Really? There's a search option? I had no idea it could be that simple

All ready tried the search and came up with results that didn't satisfy my question. Thanks for the wasted response though.

from the looks of the dyno #'s its an auto. I could be wrong, but with an ls6 manifold, and prc heads my ms4 went 435rwhp and 400rwtq through a 6speed. cant find my sheets, but I went 11.8, spinning quite a bit.

To keep this directed properly, again, I alredy know the MS4 will make more RWHP (shouldn't be a ton more though). I am more interested in the driving manners and power curve differences between the two. Or which has a steeper or higher peaking RPM band.

Well from my understanding the ms4 will pick up power and tq earlier in the powerband than what ms3 will. The supposedly "improved" difference was the low end tq on the ms4 compared to ms3. Driving manners from the phone conversation with texas speed and many other conversations with other members are just fine with proper tune could run just like a mild cam car. However if this was a DD I would go with something smaller just my .02.

So basically you are saying both will have the same approximate peak RPM for power, just the MS4 will have power that comes on sooner and is more gradual than the MS3?

I don't think either one is ideal for a DD either (for your average Joe), but I am no Joe, and am looking for something wicked in a DD. My Z28 in my sig has a custom cam that is more of a monster than the MS4, and it drives just fine. (cam specs for my Z28 are 244/254 .578/.578 114 LSA)

I do see that your custom cam compared the the ms4 is basically reversed from each other. Yours has a MUCH higher duration and lower lift than ms4. Even from texas speed the powerband for rpm range and top end are quoted the same. I believe the ms4 may gain even a little more than ms3 in the higher rpm but essentially you have the concept correct again this is from my understanding and as you can see in my sig im going to be going with the ms4 myself.

Oh ok here is more info

I dd my cam on stock 3.42s had very little problems with surging and bucking most on poor take off lol(I'm blaming the Ram hd). I have a really good friend who has the MS3 it felt to me like in lacked in the middle and low end but just by a bit. He has driven my car and liked it but not enough to make the change... btw he also beat me by a car when we raced on his new 346. So there you go

So, rickyracer25, did your friend have similar mods to your car with bolt ons and a MS4, only he had the MS3 and he beat you by a car?

Yeah, I know you did. I am sure you will like it as there are so many people running that combo. It may be the way I go as well, but I have a couple more months before I am going to buy anything so until then I am going to try to get all the info I can.
