Default 550hp = bent axles. Who knew?

I need some opinions on what to due now. Is there anyone out there that drives a spool on the street and if so how bad is it. My car isn't an everyday driver but I due put about 3000 miles a year on it. I like the idea of a spool because I can go with the 35 spline axles and spools don't break. So what do you think spool or posi?

What made you decide to go with the spool? Have you driven in a car with a spool before?

You don't notice a spool till you take a sharp turn into a parking spot and the car slows down quickly.Makes it just alittle more effort to pull out of a street.

Spool will do a couple things for ya, it will make the car leave straiter and more consistant, it will take a weak link out of the rear for good, and when driving on the street it will put more of a load on the tranny/clutch when trying to make a tight turn.

Weigh the benefits against the downside, IMO it's a no brainer put it in and be done with it. I know I'm gonna.

i put a spool in my car about 5 years ago. i put about 20,000 miles on it on the street with the spool and turbo set up, then ive put tons of 9 sec passes on it, i took it out this past year for the first time and all i did was change the gears and threw it back in and went low 9's high 8's and its still in the car.
on the street it wasnt bad, but that is all opinion. im pretty easy to please and it was a no brainer for me. but some one who is scared of every creek and bang or gear noise, forget it, stick with the posi and blow them up. lol

**** the locker imo they are junk and more annoying then the spool, i dont even like the lockers in my truck. lol

I honestly think that a spool would be fine for you. I remember driving Pete's car [Kerminator] at the track and moving it around on the street with the spool it in, it was fine. Sure the slow speed stuff was a bit of a pain, but once you get used to the inside wheel hopping a little, its perfectly fine. Above 10mph you don't even notice that you have a spool.

But if you're going with another posi, then good luck!

BTW, not to be a jerk, but I remember saying something about those 30 spline axles not being able to handle the weight of the car with that much power and being told that it will be okay. LOL I think at this point I have broken enough rears to know. YOu might be swapping to a spool in the future anyway, but lets hope not.

Good Luck!

It bent the splines on the 30 spline axles. The posi unit itself is in great shape and is for sale cheap if anybody needs one, only about 3000 miles on it. The only reason for the new one is to go to the 33 spline axles. Hope it works out. Only time will tell.

Hell if ya had waited a couple weeks I could have sold ya the HD eaton that's in my rear cheap, it's set up for 33 spline already.

I'm putting a spool in my car, gonna reuse the axles unless they look ugly when it comes apart..... I suspect they'll be fine, noyzee's been on the same ones for a good long time so I suspect mine will be fine too.

After thinking it over alittle longer I'm going with the spool and 35 spline axles. The only problem is you can't have ABS with a spool. Is there anything special that needs to be done when disconnecting ABS?
