Default Have an issue come inside see if you can guess

Ok here i go car 98 z28 101k miles heads and cam package installed at 100k miles. Issue is i am getting a metal sound from the motor increases with rpm doesnt seem to be power loss, but there is a small idle issue. The metallic sound happened under normal driving no racing or anything just started and got louder within 5 minutes enough time to drive home. I pulled the valve covers 3-4 rocker arms have play in them but i cant tighten the bolt anymore only side to side play not up and down. All valve springs appear to be fine didnt notice any damage to them. Is this a lifter issue or is it bad rockers or is my motor trashed???

Mods list
tq v.3
stage 2.5 5.3 liter heads
prc double springs
hardened pushrods
scorpion roller rockers
replacement lifters

Let me know what ya think also i checked all header bolts they are tight as well

yes 7.4 also this failed at 1k miles so it should have had pushrod issue from the start

Got it. When you say metalic noise, is it a grinding sound or banging. Odd that the rockers are loose with em torqued down. Does it sound like a bad lifter? Did you pull those loose rockers off? Maybe lost the needle bearings in a couple of racker arms???

grinding and a tapping like sound from the motor it goes tap break for a second or two then tap again...also with the cam being high lift could that cause premature failure on the lifters they are oem replacements. Also those rockers that moved could that be because the valves are open on those?

Valves being open would not do it, just the opposite. I just noticed that you have the Scorpion rockers so disregaurd my comment about bearings. I sure hope it's not the LS7 lifters, that's what I put in my motor last year. So far so good... Does it sound like valve train noise?

take your valve cover off and check everything out , it would be hard for a lifter to fail. i have stock lifters with a t-rex and crane duals so theres allottt of pressure on them... but who knows , maybe you got a bad seed, it could be A: slightly bent pushrod B: bad/cogged lifter C: bad rocker/rocker bearings d: your rocker might have wiggled loose

well the rockers it like every other one is loose.... Could it be a bearing with in the motor? I took the covers off everything looks good i couldnt feel any breaks on the valve springs didnt notice any visible damage to the rockers. Also if i have hardened pushrods they shouldnt be breaking just driving to the store in back not ever getting on it. I am gonna try and get video of this sound hopefully with out blowing the motor haha then maybe yall will know exactly what it is

i would doubt the bent pushrod only b/c you would see it. my buddy bent his in a 98Z and it was more of a ticking noise. pulled the valve cover and it also start to oval out the head where it comes through
