Default Stock style ignition vs front mounted dist at high power levels

I'm considering an blown LSX swap in my thirdgen. I have seen some of the higher horsepower (~1000hp) LSX cars running a front mounted distributor and not the stock coils. Since I view this as one of the major advantages of the LSX; why would anyone perform a swap BACK to a distributor?

As in, should I expect issues with a stock style LSX ignition at the 1000hp level?

Thanks,

Justin May

Your talking about this style right?

I believe that the advantage has to do with having a non-ECM/PCM powered vehicle. You can race different classes and have less restrictions. Maybe not so much a power choice afterall. It is an interesting conversion to see though. It is also easier on the pocketbook to have a small block kicking out 600-1000hp with the LSx motor thanks to advances in technology over a traditional BBC or SBC where it takes $$$$ to make it comparable in the least.
