Depends just how far you go with your cam choice. With good tuning you can get reasonable cam to pass.

Ditto. I have a 220/224 cam and pass an e-test with numbers close to stock.

I've seen much much larger cams pass with an e-test tune (there are all kinds of tricks you can play with the tune to pass an e-test).

It also depends on how good your cats are. I've seen some disappointing results from the little pup cats that come on some of the aftermarket y-pipes.

does a change in heads have any effect on emissions testing as well or is it only the cam?

Haven't done so yet. If I get the planned mods completed before fall, I'll have to go out on a test and tune night just to see what kinds of numbers the GP will lay down.

I wish I didn't have to pass it... on my 3rd try today.. HCC on the idle test is still failing... driving test is finally okay thanks to a lean tune... Argh... Idle is set to 1150...

Perhaps Wade or Arun could tune it for you to pass. I know Pete K (when Autoworx was around) focused on my cars total tune meaning idle, half throttle and WOT and end result it passed smog. What the specs on the Cartek 2X cam?

I have the exact same cam and I've passed two emmission tests already. Mind you, it is a fairly mild cam.

If you car is tuned properly and the cats are good, there is no reason you should not pass smog.
