Default Where did you all get your motor mounts? 1st gen camaro ls1 swap help

Ive been reading for the past couple hours looking all around at JEGS and Ebay for mounts for my LS1. I have the part number for the Hooker LS1 adapter plate. From what i understand this adapts SBC motor mounts to mount to the LS1 correct? Well in my 68 Firebird i had a Pontiac 400 in it. I CANNOT find SBC frame mounts anywhere for a 1st gen camaro/firebird. I have the engine out and everything and i really dont know if regular SBC mounts will fit the Pontiac frame mounts. Any idea if they are the same or where i can get a set? I dont care if they are solid or urethane or whatever.

What you need is the carshop ls1 adapter plates, 327 small block engine frame stands, and engine motor mounts. Some guys have clearance issues with the hooker mounts as it puts the engine too far back against the firewall and the headers hit the steering box. As you can see I didn't have these issues with this combination. Oh, this is going into a 69 firebird.

There are a lot of guys doing this swap. I do most of my posting at www.pro-touring.com. Here is a link to my build, http://www.pro-touring.com/forum/showthread.php?t=31227. You might want to try Year One or Classic Industries for the frame stands.

Hope this helps.

Sam

Frame brackets are AQW-1339 at Ground Up or EP-4 at Ricks First Gen. Those are 327 frame brackets that use "Short & Wide" mounts, such as Energy Suspension 3-1114G.

Thanks! I just bought a manual steering box for the car if that helps with any clearence. Are you running longtubes? I'm on dial up so im procrastinating checking out your setup as everything takes so long to load.

Should i run solid mounts? this is going on a car with subframe connectors, traction bars, 8pt cage welded to front subframe and has an auto but will possibly be swapped to a 6 speed.

I'm running Hooker long tubes with ATS plates, but I had to ding two tubes to clear the power steering box. I think manual would give you more clearance but I'm not completely sure. The carshop plates that someone else mentioned put the engine higher than my ATS plates, which probably improves header clearance.

The ebay link looks like repro 327 frame brackets to me. I'm not sure how close the repro frame brackets are. Whenever possible, I avoid repro parts--most of 'em don't quite right, and don't hold up very well. You'll probably want to test fit those, take a die grinder to the holes if/as needed, then strip them and repaint them.

I haven't seen anyone running and accessory drive without a tensioner.

I'd run poly engine mounts and transmission mounts, and solid subframe bushings.

Why solid subframe mounts? I've heard this before too i was just curious. When i put in my subframe connectors i used poly mounts. I really dont feel like taking them back out haha.

We carry both style of plates and I have personally mocked up with each set...
Both work fine and I sell mine at a great budget price. The hooker style or our 1 inch setback units get you a 1 inch more clearance and helps with the steering linkage on those cars. It comes at a trade off as moving the engine further rearward makes mounting low mount drive accessories a pain, Our standards help but then makes the rear steer linkage a pain!

I'm actually running poly myself for the same reason . Everyone over on Team Camaro says that running poly bushings does nothing to help ride quality, and they still deflect a little and allow chassis flex.

Just as a data point, I've recently noticed that Summit's now carrying Trans-Dapt LSx swap mounts, the PN is TRD-4572. If they don't help with your swap, then this note might help someone else...

I used the champ pan on my mock up with hooker long tubes with both the 1 inch setback mounts and the standard location mounts. Both were still pretty close if not still hitting the pan on hard steering....

After seeing that modded stock pan I am pretty sure my pan will work, I could not run a full sweep as I only have a front stub here and not all of the linkage was present....
Our mounts (1 inch setbacks) are very very close to the hooker units for this swap and are a much cheaper... I even tested them with the hooker headers and they were all geed!
