Default real horse power

what is the real horse power of a stock z28 because i read that even though it was listed at 305 it is more like 340 and they just rated it low so the vettes would look more powerful

Ls1s were underrated, and make about 345 crank which is around 300 to the wheels. Lt1s make like 305 crank and i think around 260 to the wheels.

Ls1s were underrated, Z28 make about 335 hp and SS makes about 345hp, the second sticker SS SLP with lid and exhaust system you are looking at 365hp,very underrated.

Not quite. The SS package is an appearence package UNLESS you have the more rare factory 345 HP package consisting of the Blackwing air box lid and SLP exhaust (which are the only two options to increase HP). Not every SS was equipped with the 345 HP package.

Not quite. The SS package came with bigger injectors, different intake, and less restrictive exhaust system, the SLP SS had a even more free flowing exhaust system with the Blackwing air box lid.

I've never heard of an SS having bigger injectors.

Not at all. Even then it doesn't matter. But I've still never heard of an SS having bigger injectors stock.

What is nice about the motor in the 2001 and 2002 LS1's in that chevy used the better-flowing LS6 intake. In order to help ensure the power levels remained below the Corvette, they made an adjustment to the camshaft....fortunately, this adjustment can be completed negated from a cam swap (hence, that helps explain why we're able to get such crazy gains simply from a cam swap).

Also its been rumored that the very last batch of Z/28's & SS's (probably a couple hundred or so ) were blueprinted from the factory .
I wish someone would check on this rumor & either confirm or deny it .

I'm not going to rip on you guys because most of you seem rather new but the whole injector thing is wrong. Its the same damn motor in both cars one was not faster then the other . the thing with the in injectors however was that in 98 they used 28 pound injectors in 99 and 00 they went down to 26 pounds and back up to 28 in 01-02 they also went with a revised camshaft for the 99's and up . Now there were your so called "factory freaks " but those cars were really rare cases . And about GM blue printing the last few hundred at the factory could be true i highly doubt it though only cars that fall under the GMMG title(berger, carl black ect...) i would think would have been blueprinted.

Holy crap......you and I already had this debate in another thread. As far as the injector argument, GM did change the size of injectors from a 28# in '98 to a 26# in '99-'00 and changed again to 28# injectors for '01-'02 on ALL LS1's but it was not an SS or Z28 specific change.

The intake change is also year specific, not model. '98-'00 had the LS1 intake while '01-'02 had the LS6 intake.

The Blackwing air lid was not installed on every SS. Only on the 345 HP package which is even more rare.

Read this for the differences between years:https://ls1tech.com/forums/showpost....80&postcount=2

All I have to say about that is GM didnt do it they dont have time to mess with that crap my bud works at GM and its one after another its a $$$ thing no time to mess around they have to have one finished car in a minute or less, off the assembly line.
So the blue print is BS.

yes they were definetly underated from the factory i was reading an article on here the other day where they dynoed bone stock trans am and a bone stock corvette, the trans am put downlike 295, and the corvette put down like 287, so say theres a 17% loss from crank to the wheels that would put the trans am at 345 crank and the vette at around 335 crank, but the corvette is quite a bit lighter, the ss has a little bit more free flowing exhaust, and ram air so i think crank hp on an ss rather than a z28 might have 5-10 more crank hp, ill try and find the article i read all this on
