I have done them with jack stands with no problems. If you have basic tools and a floor jack this is not that bad....

I did mine on jack stands. I just pulled out the headers. No use fighting them in my opinion, just pull them out, piece of wood on the oil pan like you said, then take the mounts out. Don't tighten anything all the way until you get all the bolts started. Not too terrible.

I would say one side at a time..... if your a novice. That way you wont have to worry about anything being out of wack when you go to put it back together.

Mine shouldnt be too bad. All thats in the car is the block right now. Lots of new parts going on...

I did mine on a lift but there was nothing difficult about it. Just get the compressor and alternator out of the way and the mounts are right there. I did solids, which are slightly different than the inserts but I wouldn't bolt anything down until you have the long 18mm bolts lined up on both sides. This is was I did with solids; I started each bolt and then tightened them down. If you don't then you'll be fighting with the motor to get them lined up.

No, you are just unbolting it from the bracket. Once it's unbolted you'll be able to move it forward quite a bit. You can then remove the compressor bracket too and you'll have even more space to work with.

There's a good How-To in this section that is stickied.

Definitely install one side at a time. My driver's side went in easily, but the passenger side took awhile. Had to unbolt the driver's side thru-bolt and pull it part of the way out to gain some flexibility for the passenger thru-bolt to finally go through.

This is why you don't install one side at a time. You need to install them at the same time, line both sides up and then bolt them down.

Huh? You just said you did both at the same time. You had to go back and loosen the one side...

easiest is to do them when doing headers.

other than that it is just more time consuming than anything.
