yeah man live on campus or get an apt closer! that's a hell of a commute! i used to hate driving to UH from Katy, much less the Woodlands.. other suggestions: don't use a/c, heat, when possible, use windows, take out back seat, carpet, speakers, remove spare, get a daily driver

Speaking of dd, I just picked up a 94 integra from a friend for $750. It has 222k miles on it and gets 32 mpg with mostly city and aggresive, with some highway driving. Needless to say I have a lot of extra money.

Granted but that depends on the type of driving. On the highway going 65 instead of 80 will get you better MPG. On the other hand, 50 in a 35 gets you better MPG. For me, in a 45 zone I'm usually doing 48 or so because that is just above the shift point to 4th for my A4, so engine rpms are much lower. Happens to be roughly the spot I'd get the best MPG sadly - I want the M5. No, scratch that, I want an LS1 with a M6! I envy you guys with the bigger engine getting better MPG than I do

Run your tire pressure at the maximum rated PSI, this will balloon them a little and decreases rolling resistance. Just make sure you check them once in awhile to make sure they are not wearing to much in the center.

I drove my '01 SS from Indy to Kalamazoo this summer to pick up the Power Tour. I got 27.8 Mpg. I was cruising @ 70 with the AC cranking the whole trip. 6th gear and a stock rear gear is awesome on the highway!

AMEN! They (they = researchers more professional that I that did studies) say that every 10 miles over 60 is like paying 20 cents more per gallon of fuel. Try it for a few tanks of fuel and see what happens. The idea is to get the car into top gear (4 for autos, 6 for manuals) and cruise at 50-60 (as slow as you can without bogging down the engine).
As for weight reducing methods...rip out the A/C unit (console and underhood parts), radio and antenna, don't bring your books to class with you, rear seats, passenger seat (depends how aggressively you want to lose the weight - don't know where the college chicas will sit then..maybe on your lap? An added bonus there!), etc...

I get 18-19 in the city with occasional hits of the gas. Haven't taken her on a trip so not sure bout interstate. I have an auto with 3.23 gears btw. Exhaust with no tune so running a little rich probably.
