As long as Detroit keeps building cars, we'll figure out a way to make them fast.

I think someone in the past said Buh Bye to performance with the 350 TPI motor, people just swapped a carb on it, so this is no different.

It's been a niche product for quite some time. The only true reason it had a volume resurgence is due to shitty diesel technology and increased demand for all things truck. Both are doing a 180.

Never going away. FI is not as clean as NA (except with DI) and more complex (nee: $$). It'll always be produced b/c of the trucks and it can always find a place in something. Besides NOTHING sounds as sweet a a V8.

I'm not surprized one bit a story like this is in the NYT. Lefty whiners in their sweater vests.

Can anyone tell me truthfully what everyday non-lux cars came with frivolous V8s besides the LS4 FWDs?

As long as V8's keep going into Trucks and Performance Cars then everything will be just fine to me. It's kind of like the 90's when the only vehicles you could get with RWD and a V8 in was the performance cars and full size trucks.

V8's aren't going anywhere anytime soon. the gubment can keep upping those emissions standards all they want, GM has the gear in place to meet the next two standards changes already and with displacement on demand they keep finding ways to get better mileage, reduce emmissions, and keep adding power.

I'm not concerned with change. It will only get better as we go.

I mean when the LS1 came out it was the chit making 300+ hp stock. Now GM's got V6's making 300+hp N/A. Efficiency and power will continue to rise as technology improves. As far as the v8 goes it won't go anywhere, I'm sure production will be reduced as these maller ci motors will have enough grunt to get the job done. But the v8 option wil still be around for quite some time in perfromance car's and trucks/SUV's.

Right now I think vehicle technology is right on the horizon of greatly changing the way we look at vehicles in terms of power and efficiency. Soon enough we will have mid level sedans and coups with SIDI V6's and 6sp autos making 300+hp and getting 40+mpg.

I love V8's though, guess we just have to see what happens.

America... the whole worlds turning into a money hungry ***** house, we as consumers have to take a stand and show our support for american cars and v8s. If we don't sooner or later broken spanish will be our primary language, Japanese cars will dominate the freeway with shitty econo engines, and the country will be called Japanamerica-***** ***-shithole

"Some Asian automakers, notably Honda of Japan, have stayed out of the V-8 market entirely. Toyota offers V-8s in its full-size pickups and S.U.V.’s, but it has dominated the midsize car market with less powerful engines."

ah HA...take THAT Toyota! (that pretty much sums up what I think about that article, too)

The big execs do seem to be crying about the sky falling a lot. It just doesn't make sense. Too much tech and too many ways to meet all the standards and requirements to have to do something as stupid as cancelling V8 production.

FWIW, the end of guns on fighters was predicted pretty much continuously from the end of Korea on, but it's never gone away, and in truth, is never likely to go away.
