I have never had the problem so I cant tell where its located. Although I can tell you that you can pick the part up at local Chevy or GM dealership with a parts department.

Before you change anything, see if your cruise control works. If it doesn't it is likely the switch for the cruise control. It screws in and tends to work its way out. It's probably out of adjustment. I got that code for ever. I changed the neutral safety switch out and it kept coming back. Somebady told me about the cruise control switch. I adjusted it and the code never came back.

its funny you mention that becase on the cruise control doesnt work, it was like that since i bought it 3 weeks ago and the light came on last week, so where is the screw i can tighten?

mine threw that code and the gm guys said it could be anything from a switch all the way up to the ecu. i did some looking and found out that it is a little switch mounted close to where your master cyl connects to the clutch petal, i screwed it in because it appeared to be not making contact with the petal. after i tried that, my cruise worked and it did not throw the code again.
hope that helped

I have the same code. I still have to check to see if maybe the cruise control is working or not.

Here is a picture of it. Its located right behind the clutch pedal

Would my car pass inspection with this code?

Im thinking that I am going to have to replace it. Does anyone know how it is held in place? Hopefully it wont be too difficult or time consuming

that switch that is circled is not the one that needs to be replaced. that is the switch that will allow the car to start. below that circle is the metal bar on the clutch pedal that hits that switch and the switch below that. the bottom switch needs to be pressed in when the clutch pedal is not being pressed down. i think i solved the problem. I have that switched adjusted as far out as i can. It needs to be pressed in more. I am thinking of getting a stick on wheel balancing weight and attaching it to the pedal bar. Doesnt sound like a bad idea right?

^I'm not a big fan of repairs using tape, but this might work. For a while.

Is there a bracket that could be bent to give a little more adjustment?

If somebody can get a pic of the screw that needs to be tighten that would be great. My T/A just started throwing that code after i had my heads done and i have not had cruise control for a while. I hope this want hurt the car while driving it like this:(

look at the left thumbnail pic that pewtermadre posted. just below the circle is a white switch. you can see the threads on the neck of it

:emb:metallicsniper is right. I have posted some more pictures. is it the white screw like thing (circled in blue)? How does it screw in?

there are two little white tabs that hold that switch to the bracket. Squeeze them together and then pull the switch off the bracket. then twist the end it will get longer or shorter depending on which way you twist it, then push it back in. its as simple as that.

I just did it and the code is gone! I have posted some pictures of the switch before and after adjustment.

Like Metallicsniper mentioned:

Step one: You simply remove the switch (white) from its connection as pointed out in the pictures.

Step two: Once you have done this twist the switch into position. Then you re-connect it to its connection and you are done. Clear the code and it should go away for good.

When I bought my current car, I had this same problem, same code.. The guy driving it down to me said it had no cruise control. I did some searching (on LS1tech :D) and found the culprit. I looked under the clutch pedal, and the little white switch was just dangling. The bracket/clip was broken and would not be able to hooked back up stock. So i creatively used a ziptie to hold it into place. Have not had an issue since.

just wanted to say thank you to this thread. i googled p0704 and this came up. coincidently my cruise control was not working either. well i did the fix in this thread and my light is still on, but my cruise works, so im sure the light will go off after i drive it a bit. once again, LS1Tech fucking rules! thx guys!

Yay for me. I did a search and found this. Mine threw a code a couple of weeks ago after I adjusted my Tick MC. I had my friend clear the code for me and It came back last night. I will adjust the switch tomorrow and see if that fixes it. Thanks.

wow this was like one of the first threads i ever started on here. since a couple of you recently had this problem and got here by searching i suppose i should update what i did to fix it as i never did say in here (what a shitty OP lol). I just ordered a new clutch input switch from the stealership, it goes right behind the clutch pedal. It is the part that only allows the car to start in gear with clutch depressed. After posting this thread a few times the car just wouldnt start until i tried the clutch a few times in a row. after i put in the new clutch input switch (plug and play simple) everything was good, although damn cruise still didnt work. Anyway there it is for anyone that searches this as a reference!

Here is a bit unusual reason for this problem:

I have an Opel Vectra B 1999 with X20DTL engine. I had problems with the gears - it was hard to shift to 1 or R. Sometimes it wouldn't shift at all. The situation deteriorated and one day I could not shift to any gear and the car was unusable. The OP-COM diagnostics said:

P0704 - Clutch Switch Input Circuit Malfunction

I don't have cruise control. I bought a new switch - and measured its resistance with a multimeter: <1 resistance when the switch is is depressed and infinite resistance when it's not. The old switch had the same behaviour and I was not surprised that the problem persisted after I changed the switch.
At the same time I could see that the clutch pedal was visibly lower than it should be. In fact it was lower than the brake. I took the car to service and they said it was one of the hydraulic pumps of the clutch. They said it didn't provide any pressure and that w/o it the clutch did not detach at all and that's why I could not shift the gear, when the engine is running (yes I could shift the gear with the engine stopped)
So sometimes what the diagnostics show might be an indirect effect of another problem.

Thanks for the advice on the clutch switch. Changes master and did drill mod and got the code. I checked and adjusted. Have not tried it yet but would be sure that is the problem since it was not doubt not hitting new pedal adjustment. The drill mod is also the best thing ever to that clutch. Never shifted so smooth.

The tick performance master cylinder is ftw. Never needed drill mod with that. I put a monster clutch in my car which is ten time more aggressive than stock and it the clutch pedal is smoother with that master.

Old thread but it seems it's time to crawl under the dash again:bang: Atleast the search function for this code gave me this thread and alot more.

Yes ancient thread, but strangely enough, my switch has not worked for 8 years, and I NEVER, EVER had an SES light, or code (pending, stored or otherwise) from this.

(And NO, it was never 'written out' either!)

I wish my 1133/1153 codes did not throw like this one didn't. ;)
