Racer's Lounge - Can we make our cars Sound/Rev like?

Hey guys...
I am curious... Do you guys think that we could make our cars sound like Ferrari's?.
I mean what would it take in order to make it sound and rev like it?...
I just love how they are able to rev so quickly and just sounds awesome..
I mean, changing the internals to all lightweight stuff would help?.
Please help me out, I am just wondering...
Thanks

Do you want it to sound like a Ferrari, or just rev quickly? You will never get it to sound like a Ferrari...that is an engine design thing. As for getting it to rev very quickly, lightweight engine internals and a very lightweight clutch setup would be the keys, but driving it in stop and go traffic would be a nightmare.
Believe it or not, this question comes up more often than not...

Wow really?
A lot of people ask these questions?
lightweight engine internals would probably cost a lot I bet??
I could probably do w/ the clutch.
Please enlighten me w/ the clutch. like what? lightweight flywheel and?
Would underdrive pulley help too?
Thanks

Probably going to be tough to get it to sound like a Ferrari and I doubt we're going to rev as high as most of their motors (the redline on the 360 is 8,500 rpm and the Enzo is 8,200 rpm), however one alternative to get more of that "quick rev" sound would be to get an aggressive cam and 4.10's or 4.30's in the rear.....you would spend most of your time higher up in the band and would certainly run through the gears much quicker.
That being said, there are trade offs to such a setup (fuel economy, considerably lower top-end, etc.).

You're driving the wrong car man.
Most F-body owners want that throaty V8 sound, and that's what LSx engines deliver. If you want a car that sounds like a Ferrari, buy a Ferrari or some sports car with smaller cubes and a high redline.

I cant believe nobody has mentioned how most of your classic Ferrari sounds are from a V12 engine. But for their v-8s they are of a different design, smaller cubes, more than just 1 cam.

to be 100 percent honest with you after I did my cam install along with a light weight flywheel and new clutch. It can be done. The reason Ferrari's rev so fast is that they have a 180degree crankshaft as opposed to our 90 degree. with a 180 crank, you only need two small counterweights instead fo 5 on a 90 crank. This gives considerablly less rotating mass, paired along with a short stroke and BAM RPM's like you wouldnt believe.
The 180 degree or "Flat Crank" also gives its own unique sound, because it is like having two 4-bangers on a shared crank.

Ferrari and Lambos use whats called a flat crank, thats what enables them to rev so fast and have that high pitched sound that you're after. You won't get that with our engine design.
Go get yourself a nice cam and a good exhaust setup and then see if you want to sound like a Ferrari.

I wish you all would ease up on the guy. He posted this in the newbie forum, so obviously he does not have the vast pool of knowledge you all have acquired. Instead of berating him with insults and sarcastic comments and turning this thread into a useless waste of space on techs server, it would have been much easier to explain they are two totally different motor designs and will never sound alike. What a bunch of assholes!

And you gotta save up your pennies for a while if you want the sweet sounds of a Ferrari. I used to work in a detail shop that had a 348TB stored in it, we had the shop boss free for a week and started it every morning and revved the shit out of it.............like an orchastra......I would cream myself to hear a Enzo/Veyron/MacLaren F1 in person:nod:

Ok in his sig it says Evo > z28, so I retract my previous statement taking up for him. So please feel free to continue douching on him.... Ill start...
If you want your car to sound like a Ferrari then buy a Ferrari end of story. The lsx American V8 will never sound like that, and why do you want to fix up a crappy z28 anyway since your sig shows you think Evos are much better...

The guy has a point. EVOs are better in many ways. For instance, if you are buying a safe car for you teenage daughter or your wife needs something to drive to the grocery store. They have more room and are more envioromentally friendly. They are reliable and rumor has it that mitsubishi will be including a years supply of tampons with the purchase of every new lancer in 08!

ferrari's are low displacement 12 cylinders.
not all of them the F430 is a 4.3L V8 making 490HP
and 6.2L is really not that low of a displacement seeing as all the older ones
circa 1960's-1970's were somewhere between 2.5 to 3.5L v12's

Ferraris are also 3.6 liter V8s(360) or 4.3 liter V8s(F430) Im sure that has a lot to do with it. I once got to start a 360 with Tubi Exhaust and rev the shit out of it. Damn that thing revs fast and sounds awesome. I personally love the sound of a Lamborgini with MS Stage 2 exhaust.
Personally I just want my future Fbody(spring of this year) to rev high like 7k+. I dont know if its possible but I will be searching to find out.
