Default 243 ls2-ls6 head differences-how to tell?

Ok i bought a new never run set of 243 casting heads off e-bay is there a easy way to tell if they are LS2 or LS6? from what i understand the LS6 had longer hollow stem intake and sodium filled exhaust for less weight - is there any way to tell which valves are in them ? is teardown required? of course im hoping what i have is the LS6 variety but if not ill get over that too , does anybody offer CNC porting on our own castings? or would a sanding roll cleanup of any rough edges be sufficient? just would like a strong running street motor.

I agree that 243 heads are just 243 heads. That is the casting number which is a ls6 head but it is possible that on different models may have used different valves, I don't know. 243 are great heads and there are compainies that do cnc them.

Default 243 heads

the 243 casting is also stock on ls2 but w/o the lighter valves - id just like to tell the difference in them - if there is a way some have the yellow springs and some dont , the heads i bought have the yellow LS6 springs but does that mean they have the lightweight valves ? who knows?

Pull out an intake and an exhaust valve and weigh em. I thnik the sodium filled intakes are 73 grams and the exhausts are 65.

Send'em to TEA for porting if you can. They get as much or more out of them than just about anybody. I have seen TEA/LS6's, LS6IM, bolt ons and 22x/22x cammed car in the mid 11's

typically if you are gonna get them ported the valves are replaced with aftermarket valves anyway so you really shouldn't worry about which valves they came with..also its not like the lightweight valves would really make much of a difference

i dont plan on replacing valves -especially if they are the lightweight LS6 - i just want to know how to tell- what are the differences? id consider doing some port work but im not building a race motor just want good street h/p -best bang for the buck
