is it mandatory to change to a ported oil pump and DBR TIming chain?

Mostly Safety Reasons I didn't replace my timing chain and am thinking about going back in and changing it. I have been running stock timing chain and oil pump with heads and cam since july 2007 know haven't had a problem yet.

if you are doing a 408 I would bet a new timing chain set and a ported pump, most people don't change them because of the extra work to get to the pump and lower part of the chain. With the motor not in the car there is just no reason not to.

I was told I didnt need it but an LS6 pump and LS2 chain was only about $140. I thought it was a good bit of security. Its a lot of money and time to have something simple like a chain break.

I don't see why you could'nt get away with it...
But cmon 40.00 for a much beefer LS2 chain that will add 5 min to your install... why not?
The oil pump if your gonna see 6500+ It might be worth the investment to grab at least a new unported LS1/6 oil pump... If its a small cam that wont see much RPM (224 or less) I'd save it for later if your on a serious budget.
If its me I end up buying both why skimp 150 when your already @ 6-800 bucks

GM LS6 H/C at 65 thousand. Chain looked and performed like new, it has already proven itself to be reliable. As for the pump, mine (2001) is the last rendition scoggin dickey. It too is proven, reliable with no sign of a problem. I don't want to replace parts that are more than adequate, aren't broken or worn out. New parts can be defective or nearly out of spec from the manufacturer. Certainly old, worn or abused parts should be replaced while convenient. I know from sight, sound and performance that the parts in my engine are good ones. Loads of analogies but I won't go there.
