Default C5 Corvette or 2004 GTO

right now i'm thinking about aselling my 98 trans am and getting either a high milage 97-02 corvette or a 04 GTO (found a good deal) anyone have any comparisons like and dislikes on both sides and overall what to go with, the car will be a daily driver and and sometimes a track car...help me deside..lol

I vote GTO as Corvettes are a dime a dozen. Dont get me wrong I love the Vette but the GTO has the rarity factor. The back seats are roomy enough for a six footer. I have had no problems with my 04. With the money I saved I now have a 500rwhp NA beast that attractions little LAW attention but gets comments from everyone.

Track meaning 1/4 mile or like road race type track?

You cannot beat the interior of the GTO for the price and the seats are amazing. And it will be a pretty good drag car but road race courses is where it will suffer.

depends what your needs are...if purely performance I'd go with the vette even though I'm a GTO owner. The nearly 1000 lb weight difference is huge . If you need the back seat and a little more practicality go with the GTO. Judging from your mod list in sig your gonna make either fast.

isn't it somewhere between 500 and 1000 lbs? Something like 700 to 800 lbs? I don't know for sure so don't hesitate to correct me.

it's about 650 lbs......2002 ZO6 is about 3120 lbs and a 2004 gto 3770 lbs. My facts were off but the weight difference is substantial enough to make a big difference in terms of performance.

Yea, C5s weigh in at about 3220 vs the GTOs 3750ish. Z06 is obviously even lighter, so if the choice were between those 3 I'd say get the Z06, but I'd go with a GTO over a C5, just cause I got a 5 year old!

agreed I have two kids myself and that factored into my purchase of the GTO. The 3 things that sold me were the back seat (a real one unlike say the Mustang or f-bodies), the interior (way better than C5), and of course the LS2.

Having both of the cars you are looking at (execpt ls2 gto) I like the gto better. The gto is more fun to drive, for what reason i do not know. The c5 has 78,xxx miles and makes all kinds of noise, sounds like my old TA. The ride is smoother in the gto. My dislikes on the gto are the damn rear fenders. Not only do you have to roll them, but if you launch pretty hard with it the rear bumper pops out on the sides. I still say the gto.

True that there is nothing better than driving a vette. But GTO's are really nice for interior.

gto

heavy
nice interior quality
more subtle, doesn't attract too much attention (pro or con)

vette

light, american dream car
weak interior
draws more attention (pro or con)

trans am

more boy racer but just as fast as vettes almost
weak interior
draws more attention (pro or con)

GTO
I'm a big fan of the C5 and I've seriously considered unloading the GTO for C5. But the same factor comes back each time. Vettes are a dime a dozen. Goats are something that you don't see everyday. A driving it gives you a sense of elitism knowing you can take just about anything that rolls up on you. However, when I get a Vette; it'll be a convertable, because it'll feel like a Goat without its hat on. Enjoy

depends what your looking for, do you have kids? also think future...sometimes they happpen! would you want to sell your modded vette and start over on a goat? gtos are a great car, fast, sleek, and almost hide in the crowd of different cars out there...

vettes are vettes, everyone knows them (cops, girls) so like said above pros/cons but both right now look like they are keeping their retail value pretty good, although a clean vette will always have its value. just food for thought
