Default LS1 Car Intake Backwards on an LQ9

I have an LQ9 out of an 03 Escalade that is going into a Jeep(ish) project. This motor is TALL.

I'm going to use the oil pan from a Camaro to gain 3.5" at my belly, but I need to bring the intake height down as well... Running a car intake requires the new accessories since it is so much lower profile.

I have heard that an LS1 car intake can be run backwards on the LQ9, retaining the stock LQ9 accessories... maybe relocate the alternator to make it work. You guys heard of this...? Or even better, done it?

Thanks for the input.

turning the intake around is common, especially in what you are doing.

You will be able to turn it around no problem with the stock truck brackets. I would be willing to sell you an LS1 intake, fuel rail and stock injectors for $250 plus your truck intake, fuel rail and injectors for trade. Let me know if that sounds good.

I want to hang on to my truck intake until the motor is running, just in case.

Do I need to change out the injectors to make this work? I'd prefer to leave as much stock as possible.

What mods need to be done for this setup to work? How much clearance to I need to the firewall to fit the throttle body?

You will need a complete ls1 intake to do it. The rails and injectors from the truck won't interchange. From the front face of the cylinder head, the throttle body sticks out 3 7/8".

You will still need a way to put the MAF in, unless you are going with a speed density tune, then you would only need the air temp.

Is there a good low-profile air filter that would work well for this application? As far as the tune, I really don't know what my options even are... I am running a full manual valve body TH400 behind this motor & no smog equipment. Any suggestions?

Can I use the truck MAF and/or temp sensor?

Thanks for the great tech.

Well, you can do either. Do you have the harnes and computer yet? If not, we can get you set up with it. How far are you into it? We have kits, harness, comp., fuel pump, lines, ect.

I have a stock computer and harness that I will send out to be gone through and flashed. I'm concerned with the fitment of my drivetrain, so need to get the intake sorted out first.

What should I expect to pay for a good used intake?

Remember that a high point on the LQ9 with the standard accessory brackets will be the alternator. (My LQ9 into a Jeep)

Good luck!

Did you end up running the camaro oil pan & how much clearance do you have under the hood w/the stock intake?

I'm running 37's and have plenty of clearance for the stock truck pan and the biggest issue with the hood was the prop rod against the radiator. It's tight, but OK.

Later, I may change oil pans, but I'm going to start with the stock set-up.

I can post more pix if needed.
