Default How are the 918s holding up in cold weather?

Let's hear from some daily drivers with Comp 918s, where it gets cold! (Lows regularly in the 20's or colder) Particularly if you have lift over .563 and an after market torque converter (or an M6 guy that shows no mercy ). Anybody think they've really put these springs to the test?

I have 918's and made it through the winter fine, my tranny thats another story. It was one of the colder winters in Jersey too. I put about 4000 miles on the car over the winter, I did allow the car to warm up before i drove it just to be on the safe side.

Well, it never gets below 50 degrees here in Hawaii, but the abuse I put my car through is bad enough. My car has about 20000+ miles (hard miles I might add)on it since I changed it and this is the one without the blue stripe (old batch). I put on between 100-150 mile a day every four days a week. Not most of the time, but a lot of times, I have to floor it from a stop to catch up to speeders on the freeway.

Not sure how it would hold up if weather was cold and abused it the same way. Just my 2 cents.

well dave, you have seen my car and heard it run. i have probably 5000 of the god darn hardest miles you could imagine on a stock bottem end ls1 (with these spings i mean) and ofcourse know the -25 degree windchill midwest. but i have never broken a sprng or anything wrong (with the occation explosion of the moser rears ) at all with my 918s. i run the big 230/230 .573" 111 lsa comp grind and easily have had 200 passes on these original springs with no problems (including launching off the 6600 rpms limitor probably a 150 times). now the car shifts at 6800 rpms.

so, i say no problems. the broken springs were that early bad batch comp cams already admitted were not good. if they survive a 100 miles, they will go on for a ton longer. just my .02

are we ready to put a healthy cam in her yet?

edit - man i cant type on a reg keyboard, i need my laptop back!

Yes, sort of, it looks like I have some port stalling going on (way over-ported intake runners, small duration cam).

I'm getting a custom grind from Comp, 224/221, .582/.563, 113 lsa, and it has a new daily driver/spring-friendly lobe shape.

Still fairly small by todays standards

"Still fairly small by todays standards "

I would agree Dave, but some times less is more.....sometimes.

oh and by the way, if it were me dave, i would go with a nice smooth B1 type cam (on comp xe grind) on a nice smooth 114 lsa considering you probably dont like all that stalling out and crap. just MHO. but then again i got my 230/230 111 lsa cam the idle like a baby (ask rob and chris).

It gets a little too here but have had the 918's for around a year or so. Some very hard miles and alot of those mile are with the juice! So far so good.
