people are using holsets with pretty good success on small cheap applications, mainly 4 and 6 cylinders. some of them are makin good power. but these are small cheap cars. at minimum it would take a twin turbo setup to support a LS1

I don't want to **** in your cheerios man, but FI and cheap don't go together. Stock parts are designed to handle stock levels of power/stress. Can your transmission handle the added power? Oh about your rear end? Can your fuel pump/injectors keep up? Oil pump? And that's ignoring the short block internals. There's alot of supporting mods to consider when going FI.
Head unit? I thought you said turbo. If there's a head unit in a turbo setup, someone please show it to me.
Cheapest route to a fairly simple turbo car: STS rear mount. Tune it yourself (Assuming you know what you're doing)
