Default Balancer?

hey all,
Have a GTO 04 LS1 5.7

I have a Maggie install coming up in the next two weeks and was wondering,

at what HP is the Fluid damper needed,I don't think I will
be seeing more than 450 RWHP.
Could I just pin the stock balancer?

Is the SLP balancer/pulley a decent alternative to the Fluid damper and ATI.

thanks
EL

Ive been told that the fluid dampers are **** to cause crank failer. I was told this by a friend that owns his own machine shop. Just something to think about.

Yea,I had a 70 Chevelle with a 400SB with an early fluid dampener and heard the tales of the Fluid dampener exploding because the fluid would sit at the bottom of the dampener cold and when started up it would bounce around and explode the dampener.

Never happened to me me though.
