Default LTFT are +25 and not moving!! LOTS of valve train noise

Ok here is the story!! Have a 99 TA out with the LS1 and in with a 2002 Ls6. Before it got put in had the heads extrudehoned, Lunati Stroker to 383, 12.5 pistons also lunati bored 5 over to accept the new pistons. Lunati cam 237 -242 .595 lift, Marren injestors (Bosch) 42#. Car starts fine and runs when looking at auto tap the LTFT are pegged at +25.. short term bounce from -4 T0 + 7. Talked to a few people and some said you have to get the PCM re flashed to get rid of the LTFT, and someone else said you have to put fuel in the tank?? and after 50 miles they will be reset. Also have a hell of a lot of noise from the valve train with the cam and lifters. The seat pressure on the springs is closed 138 T0 141 and Open is 398 to 410. Anyone else have any problems like this?? Thanks

pcm just needs to be reprogrammed to get the ltrims down. Or you could get a maft but that wouldn't be the best way to fix it. LS1Edit would be a good idea.

Is the timming table close for the LS1 to the LS6.

The stock PCM on a LS6 runs a lot less timing, I think because of the higher compression ratio. Valve train noise is normal with an agressive cam and stiff springs. If the lifter preload is too low, you could have excessive noise, though.

You did not mention if you also went with a Z06 85 mm MAF, if you did it will not work correctly with a 99 PCM for its MAF table was designed for a 75 mm MAF.

Being your short terms are not that far off it sure sounds like when you decel TPS the MAF is outputting unmetered airflow, meaning the frequency is lower then what the MAF table supports which is what happens with a 85 mm MAF in a PCM that was designed with a table that starts at a higher freq of a 75 mm MAF and when the 85 produces the lower freq the PCM cannot convert the signal and compare the value to the MAF table.

Best hope that clatter is only valve train noise,
and not everybody pinging like mad. +25% is a
clip value and means the PCM could not even get
to stoich mixture. Don't go getting on it until
you have it sorted.

TeamZR1, I looked into this on my car and it seems
like the F-bodies don't have your 'Vette closed-
on-deceleration behavior; at least on mine, I had
good sensible lb/min readings coming over the
data link, not that much lower than idle, which
sez to me that the PCM is able to make sense of
what it's getting. I did a bunch of throttle
drops in 1st to try it out and never got a flow
reading "crash". This with an SLP 85mm MAF,
auto, though. Just a datapoint.

Well played a little more with it, have auto tap and ls1 edit. when I pulled the plug off of the TPS it now runs like a 300 shot of NOX. I still cannot figure out why it runs like hell with the TPS off. he is an auto tap view from last night.

Why did you unplug the tps?

would not produce power connected/ I cannot figure that one out.. Spoke to a gm rep today, he said you actually do not need it the maf totally controls fuel and spark??

I just can't read all the numbers jumbled up like that.

If BOTH of the Ltrims are + and are roughly equal then the pcm is detecting a lean condition and you need to get them to the +/-7 range.

If one side is + by a large amount and the other one is fine then you might have an intake manifold leak.

Figure out your TPS problem and plug it back in.

Ok, one little problem, I ran into when I did my solid roller setup, I didn't have the valves adjusted right at first, I had to much play in the valves, and it caused excessive noise, and it also caused a severe lean condition.

I am wondering if maybe you don't have enough preload on your lifters. But what do I know....

Did a propane check and found no leaks at all, This car had a ls1 that Cartec in NJ did and it lasted 800 miles and blew apart. They did program the computer, what they did I have no clue the wireing was a nightmare, I am still trying to strighten it out, they put in a 12 bolt Moser and had that all screw up also. I am just trying to get all the little problems fixed. My main question is how long does it take for the LTFT to do a change, Or If you reflash the PCM will that clear all the LTFT. I have heard sometimes it works and other times it does not. I just got ls1 edit and am playing with it now. As for the TPS I am still researching it. Thanks Guys for you input. I guy In Mahanoy City is getting a Superflow Dyno amd I will Take it there in about 4 weeks.
