Please read this thread:
http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=840919&highlight=engine+crate
If you read all through his posts you gather this is a new crate engine, I paid 1900 for it and received one of the takeout GM crate motors that are all over for $100-$300 bucks. I have 1900 in a rebuildable core engine.
main points are:
"All,
I have a 6.0 long block for sale. Still in the crate. I cut the plastic on the engine the other day to look at the heads and block. I believe its based on a 04 engine. Call me @ 334-354-9332 or email me at DAVID.ROBINSON.30@US.AF.MIL "
and
"Its a 6.0 long block (w/ water pump and crank pully) and its NEW 317 heads all stock"
both quoted by him
I took pics and will post them later but its a dirty, carboned up engine with loose bolts (heads, etc) just like any takeout "piston slap" engine I have bought in the past for cores to rebuild, NOWHERE near an engine ready to run.

Here are the pics of the aforementioned engine. Is this what you would expect from that ad? I took these at work today, minutes after unloading the engine from the carrier. The truck driver even comment that he had been shipping around quite a few junkyard motors lately......yeah....nice

Damn sure doesn't look like $2000 worth of engine. Looks like a junk yard core.

Well, in reading his post, in all honesty, no where does he ACTUALLY say it's a NEW crate motor from GM - says he has a long block in a crate. It is indeed in a crate. But the the title does say 'crate motor' which everywhere on the planet is taken to mean a NEW motor from GM thru assumption.
He does say at one point that it has NEW 317 heads (and those heads have definitely been used - so that was a falsehood) you can see the buildup in the ports, the telltale intake gasket marks around the ports, and the plugs are even still installed.
The post stated that he would send pics upon request - did you not require pics of the actual item you were buying before just sending off $2K!???
I ask for pics of the ACTUAL item that is being sold every time I buy - even if it is a small ticket item. I don't accept copied mfg. pics - if seller can't take pics of the item he/she is selling - well then, I move on...
That engine, looking at the state it is in, leads me to believe that it has DEFINITELY been used for quite some time and probably setting out in the weather for some time also. Awful lot of rust marks all over the engine and the block paint is trashed. My engine in my TA with 30K on the clock looks as if it came from the factory.
Post is slightly misleading, (leaves a lot of assumptions on the part of the buyer) but in all fairness, without knowing all the intricate details of your deal, if you didn't look into the item more closely, and demand pics of the actual item - then you are also at fault.
Not taking sides - just stating my opinion as was asked. But I would definitely get in touch with him and straighten things out.

I asked him multiple times for pictures of the motor. No luck so I kicked him to the curb. Sorry for your misfortune and I hope you can get some satisfaction. I agree, notify his command that you will be pressing civil charges for fraud.

Looks like a total scam to me! I've heard that you can contact his superiors in the Military and they will help resolve this. The military doesn't take kindly to these kinds of things happening.

yeah sorry haven't been online much to update but as of this point we have received partial payment back for what the motor is really worth as a rebuilder.

Another update......have received 1 payment back out of three. After tearing the engine apart it had water in three cylinders and after taking it to the machine shop to have the worst cylinder bored to see if it would clean up the pitting, the block was deemed not useable

sorry to hear that...........:eyes:
File "theft by deception" charges thru his local county's DA. They should take care of the rest. He will HAVE to show up for court (I dont know how far you are from him), and should he choose not to..... warrant. The local authorities will contact the MP detachment on his base and handle it from there.

Just to update on this situation. We ended up getting the seller to send back $1200, which he decided to do with three payments of $400 over time. That’s great :eyes:, at least we were getting some money back though I guess. Well the first payment came close to on time. Then no second payment. We waited about 4 weeks overdue to get the second payment, which then came with a post dated check for the remaining payment, dated April 15th, quite a bit down the road from the initial time we sent him $1900. About time came to cash that check and I got emails from the seller stating he was trying to sue whoever he bought the engine from. He wanted us to not cash that check and he would send the remaining payment in two parts, via paypal. Given the guys great (ha) payment history, my friend (the buyer) went ahead and cashed the check and it went through. Now we have a mad seller wanting money back because his bank account is withdrawn.
Let me just get everything straight here, he bought an engine, never saw it, attempted to make 100% profit by reselling it. I unfortunately took his word on what it was and my friend purchased it at my approval and made his first (and probably last) big internet purchase. Now the seller wants money back from what he sent us because it made his bank account go under.
HA
On another note, after taking what we had left of the engine to the machine shop, two cylinders were not savable after being full of water. So after spending $1900 for the engine, getting piss-poorly refunded back $1200. We(my friend) have $700 in a used 6.0 crank, rods and front and rear covers, which are about the only useable parts worth anything after it was all said and done.
BAD seller, BAD deal. Nearly 3 months to get partial money back for a raw deal and still bitching from the seller. Guys like this make the internet a bad place.
I dont have 320 all positive feedback from 7 years of ebaying by being dishonest

Try to cash the check, then it becomes a legal matter for sending you a bad check ;) You'll get your money that way

Im not sure if I made that clear, the last check DID go through. Now the seller is mad because it drug his checking account into negative. Seemed to go through on this end, we did FINALLY get 1200 back, and have 700 into this crap. Lesson learned I guess. He needs to move on I guess

Just to update this old thread on this old piece of shit seller. We JUST received a bill from the freight company. Yup, you guessed it, the engine he sold us for $1900 SHIPPED...wasn't really shipped. Now since he has refused to pay his PREPAID shipment from 10 months ago, they are coming after my company looking for the $526 dollar freight bill to be paid. This never ends, I hope this scumbag gets every ounce of what he deserves. Sounds like it might be time for a road trip to Texas, this piece of crap does not deserve to be any part of serving our country.

I just got off of the phone with R&L, they are going through their records to verify reciept of payment. I paid this after I got the first invoice with a money order for 263.xx... I didnt keep the reciept of payment so its kinda hard to prove at this point in the game. I will keep you updated. Expect something in the next few days.
Next time, contact me with details before posting on here...

Better be glad this guy is nice...I would have called your base commander, who then would have called his first shirt. (First Sergeant)First Shirts have a way of fixing this types of things. And if that didn't fix it I would just come on base and handled it myself. All you need to know is his name. By his name you can find out which squadron he is in. If the First shirt acts like he doesn't care then call the squadron commander. If nothing happens then call the base commander hotline. It is on the dyess website somewhere.
