Default 2000 SS Resale Value

i'm considering selling my SS. 30,000 miles, garage kept, excellent condition, mods in sig. kbb.com values it at $12k for a private party sale.

my question is what's the rule of thumb for getting money for the mods done to the car? is there a certain percentage used? i have thousands in the SS in mods (performance and cosmetic) and obviously would like to re-coup at least some of it.

thanks for any input in advance.

Depends on the buyer. Some want stock unmolested, others want some mods. With that milage I would suggest asking $15k maybe a little more.

dont do a kbb and do a nada and i think you will be suprised. $13000 for a quick sale maybe but i would at least start at maybe $18000 and you leave yourself a little haggle room.

I can tell you that you are not going to get anywhere near 18000 for a 2000. Figure less than half of what you put into mods you will get back...I KBB/NADA is 13,000 I would figure around 15-16 for the right buyer and about 13-14 for a quick sale..

Overall you can count on no added value from mods. If anything it will scare away some buyers who don't want somebody's headache. That said if you find the right buyer you could get more money for the mods.

i have two potential buyers. friends of a friend situations. i'd like to sell it to someone who knows a bit about cars and realizes what they'd be getting with my SS performance-wise. that way, they may be willing to pony up a few more bucks for it. i'm a bit surprised that you can't expect ANY return on your mods, especially if they are engine mods that increase HP. i mean, buying a modded SS with 435HP (est.) at the crank vs. a stock SS with 335HP has to be worth something extra with the right type of buyer, right?

either way...i'll add up my mods receipts, see what they comes to and make a determination of their value using a 40% return as a MAX. point and see where that puts me. i would think the $15-16k number sounds about right for the right buyer.

thanks for the replies.

oh yeah, i'm considering selling it because i just don't drive it often anymore. been married 10 years and have a 4-year old at home, so my priorities have changed considerably the past few years needless to say. but each time i do get a chance to drive it and i hear that engine rumbling and it shakes the roofs off my neighbor's houses when i drive down the street, it does still make me feel real good.
