there is no definative answer.
there are guys running some SICK motors through 3" catbacks.
and most of the time the limiting factor is the muffler...
but if you keep the discussion to strictly the pipe size (and assume you'll get a good muffler)...than i would say you'd see minimal restriction untill you start pushing 400rwhp.
above that is when the bigger systems or TDs come into play.
the other side of the coin is that TDs sound SO much better...even at lower power levels.
