Eastern Members - lookin to get a surround sound system which 1 to get?

i been looking at several different home theater systems i cant make my damn mind up on which one to get i need something for the game so im prolly going to pick one up tomorrow if anyone can help me out on which ones are good that will be great thanks.

what exactly are you looking for, a whole theater in box or what. Do you have a reciever already. I have some speakers i would like to sell. Dont know your needs for a system either(do you live on your own,in your parents,with a girlfriend/wife) that can all play a big part into what your going to get as some wifes/parents wont allow certain things ie big speakers. Also money in which you intend to spend on said system.

+1 on what is said above. If you need an entire sound system then id say check out BJ's/Sam's Club/Costco as they have some great deals on nice sound systems. I picked up my bose DVD/receiver and speaker package for hundreds less than best buy there and it is phenominal. They also have some nice setups (800+ watts) by Sony and other good companies for around $300.

i was just gunna get the home theater in a box this would be for the basement of my house its a good size area like 20' by 25' i might check costco out today.

If you want the best Bose's 48 Series lifestyles system is the top of the line for sure. its expensive but the sound quality is amazing!

My suggestion:

Onkyo entry level Recievers,Look at the 506/507/508 Series
Very nice budget reciever

Speakers are tuff but for a tight budget I would suggest

I also like Klipsch since they are very efficient...

There X line is very good for the money and come in super nice finishes.
They also give an upgrade if u decide to go to another stlye down the road..
They little subs are nice for the money too..

Lastly for the Blue Ray Player if u can afford one in this budget
I'd go Sony....

Figure under 500 for the Onkyo,about 1000 for a AV123 speaker setup and 400 for a Blu Ray machine....

Just under 1900 and it will sound AWESOME....

Hmm I have had no issues with my Bose surround sound. I received a great deal on it and it sounds amazing. Just out of curiosity what is deemed wrong with them from the website you PMed the OP? Also, im not sure his budget but almost $2K is probably more than most people want to spend.

FWIW this is the one I have:

Bose 321 GS Series II

Works well and is a CR best buy. Again I dont know if there are some hidden issues with the system but id love to know if there is anything I should look out for.

They will castrate u on avs forum if u buy BOSE
All hype BS with there stuff and totally overpriced but its your money..

He can go onto the avs board and check out ratings on HTIB that are under 700.00 that will BLOW away BOSE.......

I have a pair of BOSE 141's as my center rears too ;)

I just picked up a complete Onkyo 7.1 kit for under $500 at Circuit City last fall. I've not really an audiophile, I just wanted surround sound to go with my HDTV and PS3 and such. It's worked out great for the price.

Like mentioned above. BOSE is not the best. Do your homework as there are better sub/sat systems out there.

theres always better out there.. I personally would use bose for any home theater I use or install. Easy to use is key in this. being able to control the whole house off 1 remote and media center makes life so much easier. I have yet to find anything as easy to install/use and have the small package of a bose system. Plus the bose system will adapt its settings to virtually any room.

bose=blows way too over priced for what you get and most people fall for the hype and think it sounds great, well what have you really compaired it to. Did you even demo blows aginst something eles, chance are you couldnt cause they always put the blows all by itself with nothing around it to compair it to. Mind you they do sound ok and the main reason not to buy it is price for what you get. Do you really think your going to get good midrange out of thoes tiny cubes. There are so many htib (thats home theater in box) systems that will definately compair and even blow away bose for half the price. Most people are sold on bose cause of advertizing and think right away they are getting a high end system cause it cost so damn much. I can give you a perfect example, you bought your bose system so you definately needed speaker wire. What kind did you get,the good old speaker cable or did you spring for the MONSTER crap and get ripped off for the same cable but since its made by monster and cost a crap load more it must be better. Mind you there are other exotic brands out there that want,i kid you not, 500 bucks for 3 feet of speaker wire and they give you all the fancy terms,exotic sheilding,material used etc to sell that stuff to stupid-born yesterday people.

All im saying is you paid way to much for what you got. Let me ask you this before you bought bose WHAT MADE YOU WANT TO BUY IT IN THE FIRST PLACE?

:) Bose for the win. I would choose Bose if I were looking for a setup for a home just as chummmma has mentioned. How many places can you control your entire house off just one remote? Plus the quality is there can't complain, and the ease of use is incredible. If you have a 2 year old I'm sure they would be able to use it to turn Barney on in surround :)

I have a crazy home stereo I really don't use beings I have 3 children now. It consists of 4 JM LAB tower speakers and 1 center and a Harman/Kardon reciever and dvd player. New all of this ran around the $7,000 mark and would let go for $1500. Pm me if you have not yet bought anything and would be interested.

You ever notice the Bose displays in the stores are off by themselves? There is a reason for that. Bose is smart in that it puts much much money into its marketing....and the results show. Everyone thinks the Acoustimass systems are the greatest thing since sliced bread. Each unto there own... if you are happy with your purchase then thats great.

My 3803 and Def Tech speakers are just as easy to set up and control as any.

I auditioned both my reciever and speakers for 2 weeks before I made my choice and bought. Bose was in the mix, too. The Def Tech's were superior in every way.
