Default Lkdwn/compr. test result-12k mi. of 7000rpm-stock bottom end

After being down a few ponies at a dyno in 110 degree weather, I decided to have a leakdown and compression test done just to make sure it wasn't just the heat killing my #'s.

Keep in mind I've been spinning a stock 2001 bottom end to 7000-7200 rpms hundreds of times over the past year (about 12000 miles), but normally shifting around 6800rpms or so. The engine has about 37K miles on it.

Well, the results are: Less than 3% leakage on every cylinder

Compression was stellar and steady in every cylinder as well.

I must say I'm utterly shocked that the bottom end has held up to the abuse as well as it has.

LS1's rule

This almost makes me want to throw more at it

It turns out a few of my sparkplugs were shot, and were probably part of the reason why my car wasn't dynoing so well....they hadn't been changed in almost 30K miles

The ohms on the coil packs and plug wires checked out good as well.

Good deal, and good info! What sort of oil have you been using?

Crazyquik, I've been running either Redline synthetic or Royal Purple Synthetic- both the race and street versions.

I've gone as thin as 5w-30 Royal Purple to as thick as 10w-40 Redline.

What percent leakage is the threshold of acceptable vs not acceptable?

20% or more will start costing you power,Verbs what was your cranking compression pressure?

Congrats on the great results, Verbs. BTW, what are the ohms for the coil packs and plug wires that let you know you're within spec? Thanks.

If I remember correctly I think it was 197-204 lbs in every cylinder, and I go by the theory that if all the cylinders are within 10% you are good to go.

The ohms on every coil pack were identical to one another, and the same went for each of the wires.

The coil packs were all either 35 or 40 ohms (i forgot which), and off the top of my head I can't remember what the wires were.

Verbs that is sweet amount of cylinder pressure! That test is also good way of gauging the need for race gas. Above 210psi will usually need hi octane gas. I would guess with your cam your static compression must be 11.2 or more to one?

Actually you start loosing power as soon as your percentage goes up... It just has to get to 20% before you feel it in the SOTP's.
