Default how much difference between 98ls1 & 02

is there any real difference between the 98-99 ls1's vs the 01-02 ls1's?? Or is an ls1 a ls1?? They both have the same potential right??
thanks,
Jake

I believe the 98s has egrs on both side of the engine which made them a pain. The 01s and up had the LS6 intake and some had the LS6 block. I believe the 01s+ had better blocks...try searching or I'm sure someone will back me and add some info .....

ok i remember there is a sticky on this but this is what i remember, the 98's have a 806 heads which have more resistance less flow, the 98 also has knock sensor problems to much knock retard, also the water pumps are a little different on the 98, the pcm is a bitch to tune on those, the valve covers are perimeter mounted rather then 99+ which is center mounted bolts, the coils are individual rather then on a bracket, i heard not so good bout the oil pumps on them,

now the goods: has 28lbs injectors the 99 had 26lbs but the 00+ had 28lbs, the temp gauge actually works, the 98-00 had a bigger cam then the 01-02, the 98-99 throttle body cam is a smaller design then 00-02. i think thats about it! but if you put on an LS6 intake manifold and 01-02 exhaust manifolds on a 98-99 it would pull more power on the dyno due to it having a bigger cam!

wow! no cam?? the cam is the thing that will give you the most power! u will spend less money getting a cam swap then buying all those bolt ons trust me! and how do u plan on getting that power without a cam? maybe nitrous or forced induction?

Wow, been a while since we had a '98 vs '01+ thread. But they are still like beating a dead horse.

Everything is in the sticky linked above. If you want more, try a search. You'll find dozens of threads.

As for whoever told you that '98s are "bad", they are either ignorant or a fool. My '98 is every bit as good of a car as my '02 is. Period.
