Using GM high lip pulley on F-body LS1

Default Using GM high lip pulley on F-body LS1

I got a part number which turned out to be the entire
tensioner assembly, see pic.

The tensioner assembly is not a direct fit, its "feet"
are too short. So I swapped the pulley onto the old
tensioner base. My old pulley bearing had a lot of
play, for being under 30K miles. New one is tight.
New bearing says Made In China. Makes you proud
to buy American.

I had to grind some casting flash off the "head" casting
to eliminate interference on the inside, and I had to
sand about 1mm off the rear lip face to get it not to
drag (much) on the body too. I followed up with some
more sanding in place with the motor running until it
did not chirp anymore. The thermoplastic doesn't like
high speed sanding much, it made a lot of stringers
that I had to peel off and scuff back.

It's on there now, looks stock, spins quiet.

I would recommend against this project since you can
find (in fact hard to miss) people selling high lip aluminum
pulleys for less than I paid, since I bought a useless base
along with the pulley I wanted. There is no GM number
on the pulley itself. Anyway it was sunk cost so I finished
it.

Can you Type III hard coat anodize this? What is the additional cost?
