The Strongs live around the block and they have several old hot rods. They have been out ther plating around and say there is a pretty good pad set already. They also have a IHRA camaro they have made some passes in. I would be haooy with a low 14 with this 5.3. If i get another motor to put in the car i might keep it and see how fast the 5.3 will go on spray being stock lol. I have a few sets of slicks i have rounded up for the s10 but none of them are gunna work for it. If anyone knows someone with a set of 31/14.5 slicks or close to it i need to barrow them just to mock up my backhalf. I wont be running them just useing them to check clearance.

It will probably be 2500ft corrected alt. on race day and that is a huge difference in ET from the weather we ran in at Monroe in March

Something interesting and pretty cool IMO:
So my buddy Perry stopped by for a late night cold beer. He used to work at Red River Chevy before they laid him off. Last week one of his ex-coworkers called him up and told him to go to the dealership to check out a "beast." It was a 2010 Camaro with what is effectively an SS/RS trim (Chevy calls it the 2SS) with every option and detail available for order. Okay yeah so "blah blah" but hang on, it gets better:
So the guy taking delivery is some rich fuck in Shreveport who showed up at the dealership, looked at the car, sat in it, and then waited for a custom 18-wheeler transport to show up for loading. Perry showed me pics of the whole ordeal on his cell phone. The car's paint is Imperial Blue Metallic (the new version of NBM) and has "ghost" racing stripes that were kinda a flat black/gray color...a stealthy blend-in. The fenders and bumpers still had the baby blue "shipping masks" on them. So anyways Perry inquires as to why the guy is having the car immediately loaded onto this custom rig. He replies with something to the effect of "It's going to a shop in the midwest for a Stroker swap and some other goodies."
Good Lord gentlemen... I'd imagine that if you meet this fucker on the street later this summer, you'll know it when you HEAR it, much less see it. I took note of the rig that is transporting it:
http://www.reliablecarriers.com
Wonder how much THAT shit costs...
When thinking about it, I'm glad there's someone local carrying on the Camaro's heritage and the dream...and at the same time think to myself "...must be nice."

I started pulling apart the LQ4 today. Pulled the heads, oil pan, timing chain, lifters, cam and got it on the engine stand.
I found out that the camshaft that I bought is a stock LS2 cam. I've been told that it's the same spec as a 2001 Z06 cam. I'm not really happy that it's not the 220/224 I was assured that it IS, but I'm sure someone will want it.

My buddy's t/a is doing the same thing and I've determined after several bleedings that it's the slave or the master or both. That's the only way to fix it. You can try draining it then bleeding it and if it holds then you'll be ok. If not check the master for any leaks. His will only hold for about a day then it starts sticking again. If it isn't leaking then it's the slave. Might as well put in a good clutch while your there. If you need some help gimme a holler. I'd be happy to help ya out.

Is it sticking all the time or only when you are in the upper range banging thru gears? have you done the drill mod? your master should be hard as a rock when u push on it when its disconnected from the slave, if not, you could have an issue there. what year are all the hydraulics? If your fluid is black get that shit outta there too. most people can resolve this by doing the drill mod.

It sticks only when you are banging through the gears, normal driving it works fine. I have not done the drill mod although I have read about it on this forum. It is a 2002 with 98k miles. My wife is driving it right now until I can put a new fuel pump in her Yukon. I hope to get through with that this afternoon.

Well, you already have the slightly better hydraulics. Do the drill mod, bleed it good. Even put a mighty vac on it. I bled mine several years ago till I was blue in the face but still wouldnt act right. I put a mighty vac on it and I pulled all kind of air out of the master. The drill mod works for a lot of people on this forum, although, I have never had the need to do mine

I see the other side of the coin in keeping the race cars in and the spectators rides out to open the parking more but $10 come on!

06-06-2009, 12:50 PM
Yea I seen that. I'm on the fence about this as I can see both sides. On one hand it will make them a little extra $$$ and maybe help push some of the people who have never raced but always want to into giving it a shot.
But on the other hand, it will definitely piss of some and they may never return. I would have gone with $10 to watch parking in spec section and $15 watch parking inside. But I'm not complaining about because I'm just glad we will finally have our track back open and it is run by real racers. I'm sure they are going to trying many different things until they get it right. I really like the way they are setting up the Saturday races. Now we will see which crowd really supports the place the most, the street guys that TnT, the bracket/index crowd, the motorcycle guys or the riceboys.

I was thinking a extra $5 to park inside the gates was more reasonable. I just happened to be one of the first to be pushed into racing with the extra parking fee.
I will not park mine outside the gates for people to tamper or get a closer look at. I'm 100% in support for the new track owners and hope it does well. 99% of the other time i will be racing so it's $20 no matter but it's still rubs me wrong to have to pay racing fee to park inside :bang:

well it turned out to be pretty rough out there tonight for some. In 7 hours i only got two passes but wasn't putting forth much effort. Track was greasy while the sun was up so traction was tough to come by. During the hottest part of the day i picked up about .5 mph. Once the sun went down I picked up another 2 mph on a bad run. So 2.5 mph total was all i had to show for it. Im pretty happy with that and the car felt great going down the track. At the end of the night Me and Josh D lined up for an infamous rematch and once again he was snoring as the lights went and I got the win light. It was a sweet victory and sweet revenge for the last time we lined up in Monroe :jest: Some guys didn't want to race so they waited to closing time to pass tech inspection and by then they were arm dropping with no timing system, It was basically like Pinks All Out came back to shreveport. Well the track got oiled down and those few guys didnt get to make even one pass. Also, Chris A found out about the RAP ( retained accessory power ) system tonight while trying to break in Wayne's car. All in all a pretty good night.

I waited all night and never got a pass in. By the time me,chris and johnny got in the staging lanes the computers went down....not lights on the tree,no timing lights and no ET print outs. They were hand drop racing whoever was beside you,so i packed up and left for the house.
I gave them $20 and i promise it won't happen again. Whoever you are that post for Thunderraceway some of us would like a raincheck on last nights race. They supposedly handed out 593 "tech cards" that is almost 600 racers, not counting spectators.
It was fun hanging out and seeing some of the guys again, maybe next time some of us can get atleast one pass in before it closes up.

I wanted to get at least one pass in. About 8pm they said not to bring street cars up until they were called to the staging lanes and they said that would be in about 30 min. We sat there until 10:30 waiting and they never called us so we decided to just go get in line where we sat until they decided to close. I'd like a raincheck next week also!
It was an awsome site to see that many cars show up for a TnT night. The parking lot was full. We started talking about it while we were waiting in the staging lane for 2hr, 593 tech cards @ $20 apiece = $11,860.00 That is just people that were racing (or waiting to race).
I guess it was TnT night for all of us and the track. It will take them a few weeks to get all the bugs worked out of it. I remember when we went to Monroe the first week it opened up after being closed for 3-4 months and they had electrical issues all day long with the timing system. So I'm not mad about last night

Hey guys, thank you all for coming out for the first night. We know we have some issues to iron out. Please be patient, we were not counting on that many cars showing up. There has been a question about unused tech cards from Saturday. If you still have your tech card, it will be good for Friday night. You will still have the $10.00 general admission fee, but you do not have to buy a tech card again. Thanks for the support, it will only get better from here. Thanks

It's just Bracket Racing, you'll get a couple of time trial passes, then dial in your time & eliminations start. If you get eliminated there will be one buy back round more then likely the first round or you can go to the TnT lane and make passes all night. I think the street class will be running for prize money also, but no buy back. They are having a drivers meeting at 7 pm for input on all classes Saturday.

06-12-2009, 09:05 PM
N/E does not mean cars with EFI are illegal, it just means you can not use any type of device on your car that aides you in cutting a good reaction time or help you run on your dial in. That would be no delay box, no crossover box, no throttle stops and you have to leave off the foot brake.
If you have that kind of devices on your car you would get over in the Super Pro class and it suck because it is ruled by mostly dragsters that are capable of running in the 7's but only run 8.9 or 9.9's thanks to the throttle stops and stuff. In S/P if you were to dial in a 12.02 and you run a 12.05 with a light that is slower than about a .020 you will lose 90% of the time. If you can make that same run in N/E you will never lose.
N/E is for guys like us. There is usually cars that run anywhere from 19 seconds all the way down into the 9 second zone in N/E.

Everyone missed a great chance to walk away with a pocket full of money last night in the Street Bracket race at Thunder Roads Raceway. The track put up a $500 purse and I was the only car to enter Street. I'm not going to take something that I did not race for, so I told Sam to keep the money and I would move over to No/E and race. They also had a dialing for dollars in Street, $10 to enter and you win half of the pot. I also gave that back to the track as I was the only Street car entered. The purse in No/E was $750, but I did not fair that well. Won my first round run dead on 13.15, had a bad light second round and lost by 27 thousand. Come on people get out and race.

VP C-12 108 octane $10.50 gal.

VP M1 Methanol $5.50 gal.

How exactly do the index classes work??
cainsw
06-16-2009, 07:14 PM
The index classes are something like 11.00 11.50 12.00 and 12.50 and your car runs 12.30's you will have to try and slow it down to a 12.50. The idea is to get your car dialed into which ever index you are closest to and try to run that number every time. Example, last Sat in the 2700ft altitude I could only run a best of 11.96, so I would have had to got in a 12.00 index and try to run 12.000 everytime without going into the 11's.
IMO, index racing is for people who suck at bracket racing. The way it is suppose to work is like this. Pick the index closest to what you can run and that is the guys you race against heads up style. So if you are a 12.00 index car you should run only 12.00 cars. I can tell you right now that it will not work that way because you will never get enough cars in each index to run, so it will end up with all the index racers in one class leaving on a handicap start just like bracket racing. 12.0 car vs 11.0 car = 1.0 sec jump for slower car. So in the end it will be just about the same as bracket racing except you don't dial in your cars time. In most cases you have to figure out how to slow down or pick up a tenth or two

And their whole argument about bracket racing not being close racing and boring to watch hasn't been to a bracket racing event like one of EFI racing events and see just how close it really is when good racers are competing.

I'll never forget lufkin earlier this year. Where's Bob? I want some more of that Impy :engarde: that was the highlight of my night that day. Even though I got knocked out on the next run. I have some stuff from the hot rod I'm wanting to get rid of. Just thought I would check with the local crowd to see if any you guys need any of this stuff.
Edelbrock stepped headers with an SLP Y-pipe: $175.00
Custom made, 3" back over the axle stepped to 3 1/2", single exhaust, with single chamber Flowmaster muffler: Asking $250.00 or $400.00 for the whole exhaust with the headers and Y-pipe
Moser Ford 9" rear end, narrowed 1" per side, 31 spline axles, spool, rear brakes and rotors, welded on LCA relocation brackets, torque arm bracket, adjustable panhard rod, drain plug, welded on sway bar brackets, and longer 1/2" ARP will studs. I'm keeping the the center section and gear. The spool goes with this, but you will need to buy a center section and gear: Asking $1100.00
BMR Extreme torque arm, powder coated red, this has already been cut and installed on to BMR boxed subframe connectors, so it would weld right in if you already have a set: Asking $375
Weld Pro Stars, 15x10 with 6.5" backspacing, with some 315/60/15 MT drag radials on them, tires aren't much good, these wheels and tires fit perfect on the above rearend: Asking $300.00
I will do a package deal on the rear end, torque arm, and wheels for $1650.00
If any intrest let me know and I get some pics out. The whole exhaust is off the car, the rear end is still under the car. Should be out by next weekend. If you have any questions, give me a call: (318) 364-6254 Thanks!

Well i didnt like the 2010 SS camaro before and now i dislike it even more. I run one tonight on the street, both autos, him with TCS, and on blacktop. We run a few times from a dig, first run i got him out the hole and held him back till about 80. Second run was about the same bot of these times he come by and put about a car on me. The third run he left on the 2nd honk and i took chase. He put about to on me out the hole and SLOWLY pulled after that. Keep in mind That this is a race between a bone stock SS2 camaro and a LS1/2 Trans am. It seems like the more i run my car the happier i am. I looked on youtube to see what they run stock and its looking like mid 13.s on a good hook so im still saying my car will run a 14.0 or a real high 13. like it sits. Too bad i wont know for sure, Mods will be done next week.:secret2:

Yea very true, I also got to drive Chazz's SS tonigh:D. It is a awsome car but it was on street tire and didnt want to hook at all. The rear end wont last long if he shifts like me lol. On the 1-2 shift the back tire come off the ground and the rear bottomed out. When the tires hit the ground it bit very hard. I wish it would have been on DRs so i could have gotten a good launch out of it. This was also my first time driving a LS1 M6 camaro, anyone want to trade for a T/A? lol J/K. BTW Chazz you have a very nice car!!!

06-21-2009, 01:35 AM
yea it went 14.4 at 100.77 opening night of the track. I was up in the first 20 to go down the track which = spinning through 1st. Steve was there and can vouch for the track sucking that night. I was also on street tires and full weight. If your LT1 runs 13.8 ill run you in my stock 5.3 T/A for how ever much you want to run for and ill loan you some slicks.:chug:

06-21-2009, 01:40 AM
You would be suprised Shane, sometimes a really sticky tire can hurt you more than a little slippage. Meg's GTO ran it's best pass with a little bit a tire spin, Friday night I think the car was actually hooking a little too much. Theses LS series engines need a stall SOOOO bad!!
-Coleman
BadAssBowties
06-21-2009, 01:44 AM
Ill be stalled in the next week or so with hedders and some nitrous. What do you think it will pull on 100 shot?
1,800 to 5,500 instantly is a little more than slippage lol. I know some tire spin will save you from the bog and in the blue car i couldnt stop the bog with slicks.
Johnny-LT1-runner
06-21-2009, 01:45 AM

Lot of variables there Shane (ie. what stall and brand, what headers, what N2O kit, what rearend gears, tuning and so on) It should be fun to drive either way!

Stall is a 2,800 to 3,000 not sure what brand. Headman step hedders and a could fusion 100 wet shot with stock gear. 3:08 or 3:42 is my guess on gears. When it hits the track it should be on a 30x9x15 M/T full slick. No tune just yet, when i go it will be worth my while lol. Unless i can get someone to tinker with it here in town. ;)

Congrads Hilton.
Wait until those 2010 Camaros start getting run by guys that can actually drive a 6 speed. 4000lbs+ is a lot of weight to get moving and they are on 20" WHEELS!!! Try to put 350-385rwhp down with those monsters on your car. They probably weigh 85 lbs a piece.
They will be just like the 98-02's, it's going to take some time to figure out what they like. Those new camaros are probably getting killed by torque management as bad as my Avalaunche is. At full throttle the pcm is only allowing me 83% according to Hp tuners
Weight is everything! My car has weighed everywhere from 3600 down to 3300 with me in the car and it is a lot harder to launch one with an extra 300lbs on it. You have to drive totally different at full weight to make it run.

I've got a 98 block that's disassembled. The crank will need to be turned, 7 of the rods and pistons are in great shape. I'll probably have another good rod and piston once I get the other engine out of my car. No oil pan / or truck oil pan if you can use it.
sorry it took so long to reply but i decided to just part the car out.
thanks for the offer

I was the only hot sumbitch there. It hooked ok. My best 60 was a 1.64. I did get a 1st place trophy for the 12.50 index. I was the only one haha. Had to make one pass and lifted when I shifted into 4th and ran a 13.8. Best pass was a 12.1. Need to order that cutout I think........of course it was hotter then camel nuts so that didn't help either.

Last time I went I got so hot even my jeans were soaked from swapping tires. When is everyone going to the next tnt? Maybe we can catch a cool night around 70* or so. I know they do that midnight madness thing now. It was starting to cool down just as I was leaving. I am not sure if they post times during that though, I thought it was arm dropping??

The track was hooking good. Gary Medders did a wheelstand the entire 1/8th mile in a Chevy II. Funny thing is, he did not spin his tires while wheelstanding like Vin Diesel does when he does a wheelie?? That was awesome!! Also there is no more Midnight Madness, we are doing TnT from 8pm to 1am and gates open at 7pm. blue98Z, thanks for coming out. Wish there would have been some competition for you.

I really wanted to come out, but it was just too damn hot! I wish they would run a program for us 'street cars" on Friday nights! I think I could have covered the 12.50 index, although I probably would have had to add a little weight, or close the cutouts!:D
I've run index at almost all the local tracks, and it's never lasted. I applaud them for trying, though.

index racing :bang: Hell i don't know why they won't throw in a bracket class with the index class? You can have a index class, bracket class and a lane for T&T on saturday nights. It's not like thunderroad has a big IHRA or Outlaw race twice a month. Throw it all in one pot and race....car count should go up because their is something for everybody.....we don't have to see thunderroad come in here and cry that nobody showed up for their index racing again because....you guessed it! Their is something for EVERYBODY!
PS index racing sucks A$$!
Maybe they will wise up and say "hey we just gave away another $500 because we only had one car in the class, this ain't working".
